It is the site of the Wauconda Bog Nature Preserve, a National Natural Landmark. Wauconda Community Unit School District 118 serves students from kindergarten through 12th grade who live in Wauconda and surrounding communities (Island Lake, Lakemoor, Volo, and unincorporated sections of McHenry County). Fremont School District 79 also serves students from communities from northern part of Wauconda.

Gilmer Roadhouse is a local little place that we've been going to for breakfast for many, many years. Recently the dining room was nicely updated and is comfortable. Service was prompt . This is not a place where you come for fast food, but food that is fresh, cooked to order and worth the little extra wait. The portions are generous. A huge improvement would be repairing or replacing the parking lot. It is small and filled with potholes (craters really).

This was my first time here and I really enjoyed my meal. Options for vegetarians and meat lovers alike. I have eggplant quasadilla. Soooo good. Thinly sliced and lightly breaded. You have got to try it. The atmosphere was great. There was a party/group in the back room and I had no idea until I went back to use the restroom. I can't wait to try it for dinner.

One of the best thin crust pizzas around. Always very good. They are known for their stuffed pizza and it is really good if you like that.I was not too fond of their dinners so I would say stick with the Pizza. We are a little ways away and they deliver, which is nice as well.

My wife and I ordered a thin crust sausage pizza at Buck Wild Tavern in Island Lake. The pizza was prepackaged from Gregorio's Pizza and was simply heated in the oven. The pizza was fantastic. We would highly recommend Gregorio's Pizza.

Love the food, atmosphere, and wonderful service at this happy place. Pizza fantastic, best Italian beef anywhere around, as well as fantastic patty melts, blts,chicken teriyaki-never a bad lunch. OK Breakfast Pizza? Yes it is to die for and then there's the regular pizzas both thin and thick crust. If you don't want a full pizza they always have slices and those are very generous in size and a meal in themselves. The rest of the menu is good as well. Best take out pizza in Wauconda and area

Stopped late afternoon for a bite. Pizza was fresh and had a distinct taste and crust consistency since it is coal fired. Options are numerous or you can build your own. Wait staff was helpful but not overbearing. Very unique with a true Italian vibe.
