We stopped by, looking for some good local Mexican grub, and we weren’t disappointed. Gabe, our terrific waiter, gave us a personal tour through the SEVEN salsas he brought to the table. I had the chile relleno platter, which Gabe offered to put chile-con-carne on top of. Seriously, it was fabulous. Everything... the chips, the salsas (the salsas are awesome), and the service. It was all on target. (Also, try the sopapillas for desert!) Thanks Gabe!

We went with friends for a Christmas season dinner, looking forward to something special. I ordered the meatloaf, having had it before and enjoying it. Unfortunately the experience this time was less than expected. The presentation was nothing, a slab of meatloaf and mashed potatoes covered in gravy with no garnish and no vegetables. The flavor was adequate but nothing to write home about. I will say the server was a great guy and quite attentive. I will give them a try again to see if things improve

I like spicy food. I was not disappointed! I had cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. Everything was delicious. The enchiladas were not rolled but flat. I've never seen that. I asked our awesome waitress Wera about it and she said it was the normal thing. ??? I've been all over the world and never seen flat enchiladas. Regardless, they were good. My wife had a combo plate that she enjoyed. I tried one of the beef tacos and agreed with here that the meat was a bit bland, but some salsa fixed that.Service was prompt and friendly. Parking was easy on the street or behind in the parking lot.I'll be back the next time I'm through Las Cruces.

Paisano Cafe

One of our party had been to Paisano Cafe several times before but she could not make recommendations because she does not venture far culinarily. We all liked the green salsa served with the complimentary chips, nice building heat but not too hot . The red salsa served with the Carne Asada Tacos was explosive heat and too hot for the person who requested the coolest salsa they had. I was much hotter than the green. Three of us had different Moles with Chicken Enmoladas. All the Moles were good particularly the Poblano and Mancha Manteles. I did not like the Mancha at first but it grew on me and I ended up liking it best of all Moles. Staff was friendly but not as attentive as could be - I had to signal the waitress for service twice, once to take the order and again for the check. They have a very interesting menu and I look forward to trying some of their other dishes. Prices are decent for what you get. I was a little disconcerted by the food splatters on the wall next to the table.

What a treat to find the perfectly flavored New Mexico posole. Add in the locally-made flour tortillas and it's "olé." A perfect late morning brunch, perfect October weather in a historical setting, it doesn't get any better than this. The variety of New Mexican items on the menu made it a tough decision, what to order, what to order. When we spotted the posole in the corner of the menu, we both said "posole" at the same time. It was rico.Go on Saturday or Sunday and you'll hear live music too! Open for breakfast-lunch.

Had heard about “The Shed” as a good local place serving New Mexican cuisine, then I looked at their website and saw they also have some really scrumptious sounding breakfast. We tried them for Sunday brunch and it was awesome! They have a bunch of eggs Benedict recipes, my wife had the traditional, while I had the huevos rancheros with home fries & beans. Both meals were served quickly and hot and they were busy with Sunday brunch crowd. We are pretty new to Las Cruces and will definitely be back for breakfast and more!

My daughter who is at NMSU and I try to do lunch every couple of weeks. She typically picks, I typically pay. She chose here. My burger, the Aggie burger was very good, she had a Mexican plate chili con carne, also excellent, the meat in her dish was super tender . Service was good, our waitress a little hurried but as meal went along she calmed. Prices were average for the area.

Family owned since 1939, this was an authentic Mexican restaurant. The atmosphere makes you feel like you’re visiting Mexico. There’s parrots caged in the lobby to entertain everyone. The gift shop is wonderful, the staff was friendly and the food was great. I would definitely go back when visiting the area again.
