Using TripAdvisor as a guide to restaurants in the vicinity of our hotel, we decided to spend our evening at Efendy with the anticipation of a Turkish grilled dinner. The restaurant is small and we were fortunate to have arrived when a table was open. The open kitchen provides you a view of your meal as it is cooked over a charcoal grill, providing a pleasant ambiance on any damp and rainy evening. The ability to see each entree cooked to order also let's you know that it should be well worth the wait, which was a fair amount of time. Luckily, our appetizer arrived quickly. We ordered calamari to begin the meal which, when the plate arrived, was a sufficient portion relative to other downtown establishments. Yet, the breading had soaked in the cooking oil, leaving a light coating of film in your mouth. In retrospect, this was a prelude to the entrees that arrived. The lamb chops have been prepared in the French style, with the exposed bone tipped by a "lollipop" of meat. The lamb certainly was young as was apparent in the dimensions of the ribs and the volume of meat between riblets. I ordered mine as a medium rare, which should have only taken a few minutes on the grill. What arrived, though, was nearly inedible and more similar to shoe leather (a debauchery of the juvenile's slaughter). The way in which the Turkish desert monitor eats is to tear a piece of meat and swallow it whole, which is the only way these lamb chops could be eaten. The remainder of the meal was average; the rice didn't have any depth of flavor, and the side salad was a side salad dressed with oil and vinegar. A disappointing Saturday night in downtown Halifax.

The food is really tasty, the portions are decent and the staff are lovely! A bunch of us ending up ordering many dishes and sharing. We had the half and half (half chicken and half beef schwarma with all the trimmings, the tabouli salad, eggplant parmesan and, the Kibbi. There are still many items on the menu that I would like to try, so I will definitely be returning.

I traveled from Alberta on business and stayed at the hotel next door. My colleagues and I ate at the restaurant most days during our stay. I have to say the Donairs were excellent served by a friendly and outgoing lady. Thanks for the warm hospitality and I will definitely be back when I'm in town. Save a place for me at the table!

Six of us went for my birthday for dinner, and everything was excellent! Our server was wonderful and friendly, the food was top notch, and prices were reasonable. The lamb, chicken, and shrimp skewers were perfectly grilled, the lemon potatoes were incredible as always, and the fries are some of the best in the city. I feel their Greek salad is why I keep returning though. The cucumbers, lettuce peppers and onions are just cut so perfectly every time! I love ela; it has a welcoming atmosphere, and the service is over the top warm and friendly. The location in Bayers Lake is perfect - easy to get to without having to go all the way into the city. The dessert menu is of the best in the city - 6 or 7 homemade options that are all good. The baklava is one of my favorites, as is the rice pudding. Keep up the good work ela!

I recently had dinner with a friend here after telling her how amazing the service and food has been on previous visits. She was blown away by everything and couldn't stop talking about it. As usual, we had wonderful, attentive service. I had the lamb shank, which is out of this world! So good. We enjoyed every aspect of our dining experience and I highly recommend this restaurant. I've read the negative reviews and I find it very hard to believe the owner would be rude to customers. Every visit he has been friendly, even when he was busy cooking (the cooking area is open to the dining room). His son has been my server every visit and he is the most attentive and polite server I have ever had. I highly recommend this restaurant for both lunch and supper.

Visited this charming restaurant for dinner and was completely satisfied with the menu, prices and execution! The decor is very inviting with a couple of larger spaces with sofas for groups. There is also a flat screen television and a space for live music. There were interesting specials, but I opted for Tandoori Chicken, a great deal at $15 that included an ample portion of moist tasty rice a crisp vegetable salad, hummus and pita. Letâs not forget the boneless chicken, that was marinated and grilled to perfection. Itâs a perfect place for group dining so everyone can share in the delights offered at this fine quality/value restaurant. Highly Recommend!

Delightful because I wasn't expecting such lovingly prepared, local food. The menu is small but unique and the food is exquisitely presented. The location is a bit odd (on the Bedford Highway at the bottom of Larry Uttek Drive. There is a patio which seems comfortable -- I ate inside both times I have been there. The decor is simple, the service is excellent and the chef takes real pleasure in describing the food. There is a real sense of pride in the staff. I had the lobster roll which had large chunks of meat as well as finely cut up meat on a beautiful long bun. The French fries are thinly sliced and cooked to perfect, served with fresh greens. The local sturgeon (I did say the food is unique, right) fish cakes are a perfect size and yummy as a starter. My two companions had the burger and both agreed it was really really good. On my second visit, I had the fish and chips which were crispy-battered, flaky white wonderfulness. Dessert - Oh my goodness, the poached apple wascaramelly, pepper crumble, plate lickable, the chocolate ganache with frozen fresh fruit puree was definitely for the "I like chocolate like most people like to breathe" person in the group and on my second visit I had the parsnip (yes, I said parsnip) cheese cake with ginger and lemon --- best . . . cheese ... . cake. . . ever!!! Had an amazing dinner there this evening. The free starter and great start...the best hummus ever. I had the lamb skewer...so tender and flavorful. My husband had the mixed grill. I tried some of his minced chicken and minced lamb...wonderful. nice atmosphere and very friendly servers . I would rate it top of my list
