Made in Puerto Rico is a fairly new restaurant. At the time of our visit, the owner did not have a license to sell alcoholic drinks. The restaurant is small with the tables set in rows. Although the service was decent, the food did not meet our expectations and it was overpriced. A simple Puerto Rican dish like "Sancocho" was poorly cooked and lacking the traditional taste that makes it one of the favorites in the island. The food in this restaurant only comes close to genuine Puerto Rican cuisine because it's not Made in Puerto Rico, it's Made in the Bronx!

While we will frequently order the chuleta's with black beans and rice with sweet plaintains, what i really love about this place is the empanadas. Being Puerto Rican there are many times when i know my guest would love an empanada as an appetizer or as an item on a buffet, but who wants to make empanadas for a large crowd. So for my daughters bridal shower and the get away brunch after the wedding I ordered them from Casa Cubana. Even locals who live in Mt. Vernon had not heard of this little gem. The one draw back is that it is physically pretty small, so we usually do take out when we are getting dinner. Go, you will be surprised to see such good food coming out of what looks like a little pizzeria.
