The tonkatsu here are always tender and juicy and dont have the heavy smell of the pork. Give a try on the Tonkatsu toro, you can try the black skin or not black skin, both delicious.

This is possibly the best-known eel restaurant in Mishima. Every day long queues form outside - people from all around come here. As Mishima is pretty near Tokyo and resort areas like Hakone and Atami, tourists come here, too.The restaurant is traditional in style, and serves excellent JAPANESE eel (constantly rising in scarcity and price!!) Chinese imports are never as tasty, and often have a rather reddish appearance, suggesting the use of chemicals to enhance their look and smell...You get what you pay for.In that sense, Sakuraya is not cheap, but it certainly offers high quality and agreeable service. When you arrive (come early) sign up on the waiting list (there's a commissionaire there to help you).
