Reviews on Japanese food in Napa, California, United States. Gold and silver may have been behind the hordes that flocked in the 1800s, but liquid gold - Chardonnays, Cabernet Sauvignons and Pinot Noirs - is behind the modern migration. This dream destination for wine lovers has an abundance of fine restaurants and inns. Horse posts have been replaced by bike racks, and pedal power is a great way to explore.

We had a very nice Sunday night dinner at Morimotos. We started with their seasonal burrata salad. It was tasty. We also had their bussel sprouts. We shared their enjoyable sashimi and had a sushi roll. Service was very good. For dessert, we loved theirchilled cheesecake soufflé seasonal fruit, milk & honey ice cream, graham cracker (deconstructed). Simply wonderful. We had a very good time at Morimoto's.

Dined as a couple for dinner. Eiko has both a full service restaurant and a bar area where the full menu is available. Sushi ranges from the traditional sashimi and nigiri to California fusion rolls. We sampled both and both are solid and delicious. Was nice to see chu toro and bluefin on the specials menu. Japanese and California craft beers on tap with a nice selection of bottles. Of course sake as well.

Kenzo

Reviewed By priscilla-rie

Kenzo definitely deserve its Michelin Star.Reservation was made with ease online and their lovely host, Yoko, calls you 2 days in advance to confirm your reservation. We arrived 20mins early, with preparation to wait for our table, but was instead seated right away at the center of their sushi counter. Our waiter offered us a glass of Schramsberg sparkling wine, in celebration of our anniversary, which was sweet of them. Menu was already laid out on our place mat. Set kaiseiki with seasonal ingredients, as you can see from the attached photo. There is a wne pairing option, but since we have been wine tasting all day, we elected to have hot Hojicha with our meals instead. The service is personal without being overbearing. It was a joy to watch our dishes being prepared in front of our eyes.My favorite of the night was the charcoal grilled barracuda with braised eggplant and sea urchin. The flavor profile in that dish is simply sublime. The smokiness of the eggplant puree combined beautifully with the char from the fish. The uni's sweet creaminess elevated the dish to a whole new level. Classic yet innovative.Another notable dish is their snapper sashimi with ground daikon, shiso leaves and soy sauce jelly. Sounds simple, but the snapper was succulent, sweet and full of oceanic flavors. When paired with the aged gelatinous soy sauce and the refreshing daikon, it became a flavor bomb. The wagyu, full of beefy flavor, was presented with okinawan sea salt, fresh ground wasabi and red miso reduction. The combinations of the meat and the condiments provided a multi layer harmony. However, due to the fried nature of the protein, we felt like we had to consume it quickly, lest it become soggy. We wish we could have savored it longer. The only dish we thought was a miss, was the steamed anago. Anago is such a sweet, delicate fish. When combined with tofu and carrots and an almost candied consume, we thought the dish became too one dimensional. Additionally, it has no texture and the dish looked unappealing once you break the eel cake.We also wished lotus chips weren't placed in the steamy bowl, as it softened them quite quickly.Overall, we greatly enjoyed our experience there. It does have a fairly high price tag, but the ingredients, the service and the ambience made the experience quite worth it.We look forward to going back to Kenzo in the future.
