Shogun Japanese Steakhouse

We celebrated a 40th birthday at Shogun in Fairview Heights.. Food was excellent & presentation fun. We ordered one each shrimp, chicken and tilapia and all were good. Also enjoyed the rice (loved the sauce!), and vegetables. The meal comes with a two-shrimp appetizer, broth and salad (with the same sauce) and portions are large so you get plenty to eat. I would consider this a special-occasion restaurant mainly due to the price. For our three meals plus one soda and two Japanese beers, we paid $87 although that did include an 18% tip because of the large size of our group. They were extremely busy the night we were there and while our table didn't feel rushed - we were the last to be serviced - some of the other tables did.

Sushi Tatsu

The restaurant decor is simple yet adequate. The staff friendly yet thin on this Saturday evening. I would give the restaurant a 3.5 for ambiance and service. My sushi was very good. We entered and were someone quickly motioned we could sit anywhere.A few minutes later came water, a few minutes later menus, we ordered drinks (beer & wine) and more than a few minutes later we placed an order. Food delivery was as one would expect.I ordered a dragon roll and a shrimp tempura roll. They were bigger than normal (width) and very tasty. I was pleased. My wife ordered the salmon bento box. She was hungry and did not leave a grain of rice on the plate. The report was good. Not a bad place, not a bad meal. They had two larger groups ( of 8) that might have slowed them down plus they had a good crowd for what appeared to be a staff of three. I score more conservatively than most, too many restaurants on TA with a 4+ that do not deserve an excellent rating. We would return, friendly, caring people.

Wasabi Sushi Bar

Ok this place is ok for upper social business people. For me I like simple and good tasting. Prices were high. Somewhat confusing menu for this simple guy. Egg roll had an extra spice that definitely was not needed for my traditional egg roll taste. The duck sauce was different too. I didn't care for it. Don't go by my review if you want to try something a little different for that is why I went there. It was different just not the different I was looking for. You may like it.

Mall food courts can be dismal places to find something enjoyable to eat. Sarku is not fine dining, but they offer fresh Asian food with a bit of spice to it that beats most of the other food court options. Bonus: St. Clair Square is just off I-64, so Sarku can be a good food stop while traveling, as well as while shopping.
