Though Bishop is the only incorporated city and the largest populated place in Inyo County, the county seat is located in Independence. Bishop is located near the northern end of the Owens Valley, at an elevation of 4,150 feet (1,260 m). The town was named after Bishop Creek, flowing out of the Sierra Nevada; the creek was named after Samuel Addison Bishop, a settler in the Owens Valley. Located near numerous tourist attractions, Bishop is a major resort town; the town is a commercial and residential center, while many vacation destinations in the Sierra Nevada are located nearby.

For lunch or supper you won't go hungry. The meatball sandwich got rave reviews from my husband and our friends. Homemade bread too. There minestrone soup was very tasty.

The Pizza Factory is a chain found mostly through the small towns of California. Casual, order-at-the-counter place that offers pizza, calzones, spaghetti and sandwiches, with a nice fresh salad bar. Beer on tap. Moderate prizes and friendly service. Great for families and groups.

Hubby and I were in town on vacation Valentine's week. We decided to have a nicer dinner on the 14th but did not make reservations. We went early and the man at the front (possibly the owner or manager) was very accommodating. We were seated without a wait. Our server was awesome. She had a great personality, was attentive without being overbearing. The food was good tasting and a good size portion. I was glad we went and we will go again when we are back in Bishop.
