Reviews on International food in Platja d'Aro, Province of Girona, Spain. Castell-Platja d'Aro is a municipality in the middle of the Costa Brava in Catalonia, Spain. It is formed from two parts: Castell d'Aro is an ancient village built around a medieval castle and a fortified church, 3 km inland on the road from Platja d'Aro to Santa Cristina d'Aro; and Platja d'Aro is a coastal town on the road from Palamós to Sant Feliu de Guíxols which stretches along a large 2 km beach. Originally a small fishing village, Platja d'Aro is now a major coastal resort, popular predominantly with Catalans and villa-owning Northern Europeans.

Restaurant Marcel Cerdan

YOU MUST GO WED NIGHTS!! The food and drink is great but more fabulous is the professional Flamenco dancing that is laid on free of charge outside by the tables. Show starts at about 9.45pm - we were just 15feet from all the action. Get there early!! Wonderful Spanish culture midweek!! Fun for all ages. Marcel Cerdan should be mandated for all holidaying locally - great free entertainment - large groups I guess would need to book.

Restaurante Montbar Mar

Saved our trip to the Montbar until our final night in Platja d'Aro. Knowing that the seafront restaurants are often busy, we reserved a table at noon for 8 the same evening. When we arrived, a somewhat austere looking woman told us we didn't have a reservation. Looking at the names in the reservation book for that evening, she was right, however turn over two pages and there we were, booked in for two days hence! Why she would even make a fuss (about what turned out to be their mistake) I don't know as they didn't have more than a handful of bookings for Wednesday night anyway! If your "holiday Spanish" isn't up to much or totally absent you might think twice about this place as none of the staff seemed able or willing to use English (unlike every other venue in Platja). Onto the food....The lasagne lacked meat and the bechamel lacked flavour. The caeser salad was ok and the entrecôte was fair enough. The paella however was EXTREMELY disappointing having poor flavours and a distinct lack of shellfish: two mussels (one stayed shut), two cockles (why bother?) and a couple of prawns. It did feature handfuls of Abalone which isn't something I've seen in any other paella I've eaten and added I think because it's cheap. Cheap isn't a word that comes to mind when looking at the bill: €170 (five of us) made this the most expensive meal we'd had in Platja.
