This is a good bakery in Frickenhausen. My husband, my 6y old and I had breakfast here 3 or 4 times. They have coffee, cappuccino, and latte macchiato. They have delicious pastries, croissants, rolls, baguettes, and hearty loaves. They also have a few cold and shelf stable pantry items. The ladies who served us were friendly and tolerant of our poor German. It is very small so not a good place for large groups to congregate.

According to our German friends this restaurant can be described as 'typical German'. The atmosphere was quiet despite almost the tables being occupied. Although the menu was, as one would expect, in German, the Maitre d spoke excellent English and took the time to describe the menu to us. They even adjusted the meal for my partner because of an ingredient intolerance. We all four enjoyed our meals and the service was attentive, with some excellent local wine.

We had such a wonderful meal here. I had learned a little German before our trip but it takes a while to decipher menus. The owner of this establishment was so friendly and helpful. He explained everything and made recommendations. We had our 6y old daughter with us and he was very kind with her as well. My daughter had a salami and mozzarella panini which she pronounced “delicious” and my husband and I had flammkuchen and glasses of wine; also very tasty. Such a nice atmosphere.

When we made our plans to go visit Ochsenfurt, the medieval town on the River Main in Franconia, we forgot about the "Ruhetag", the one day most hotels and restaurants in Germany close to have their day of rest. It was cold and rainy and we walked around town with an umbrella, shivering. The next best thing was to go inside, eat something and get warm, it was just before lunch time. The places we had picked out beforehand, were both closed...so we asked a local and they told us to go to this restaurant, just across the street housed in a beautiful "Fachwerkhaus" half-timbered old house. When we walked in the old exposed beam looked great, but we did not care for the decor, pictures of Marilyn Monroe, Charley Chaplin, Norma Jean dinners and Elvis greeted us, there was even a local "Norman look alike from Cheers" sitting on the bar at 11:30AM. The place was clean and the server friendly. We ordered the "Jaegerschnitzel" which was tasty but overcooked and tough and the "Matjes Hausfrauenart" young brined herring, with home-fries, which were just sliced potatoes fried in the deep fryer, the Matjes tasted good, but it was not Hausfrauenart, since the sourcream was very liquid and the ingredients sparingly used. However, the dark local Kauzen beer was very very good. By the time we were finished eating, the sun was out and blue skies greeted us.

We had children and even a vegetarian in our party. All only spoke English and no German. The staff went out of their way to give us English menus and to explain the menu. The food was excellent and reasonably priced.

Had a very nice meal here with my husband and 6y old. I asked (in poor German) what would be good for a child and our server recommended the schnitzel and pommes (french fries) which came with ketchup; my daughter was very satisfied. I also had a nice glass of wine with my dinner of pork cutlets with mushrooms and späetzle. My husband had a very good braised lamb shank.

We had stayed at this hotel quite a few years ago and the food was then good. So, we tried it again under new management. We hadn't booked and the restaurant was full. Outside there is a "Biergarten" but it was too breezy. After looking at some other locations, we came back and got a free table. The service was very friendly and helpful. The menu suited our taste and we enjoyed two very good, if simple, meals. The price was reasonable and the portions more than adequate. Oh! and the beer and wine wasn't bad either.

Ehrbar Frankische Weinstube

Reviewed By DonPaulo

Four of us had a Sunday Lunch at the crowded Ehrbar Fränkische Weinstube. Duck and Schnitzel are among the specialties. My wife had the boneless 1/4 duck and I the two schnitzels 'Wiener Art. The other couple had a Zander and a Mixed Grill. We also shared tastes of two different soups. Each dish was outstanding. My two schnitzels were thin, tender and juicy. The potato salad and cucumber side was moist and subtly seasoned. My wife's duck had a crispy skin and the meat was juicy and flavorful. The Zander was piled high in a bowl and was also done perfectly. The mixed grill was generous, flavorful and juicy too. All agreed that this was one of the best Gasthaus meals we have eaten. The local wines were of high quality and matched the menu descriptions.I give 5 Point ratings sparingly, but the Ehrbar earned its points on quality alone. The prices were also quite reasonable and the portions were generous. The full house caused the service to be hurried, but we never found the staff to be anything but friendly, courteous, helpful, patient and efficient.
