Great little restaurant on blue “Dahu” run down into Samoëns. Friendly patron and staff, great alpine food at reasonable prices. Note this is a chip free zone so not seen any young children on any of our visits. Fondue with cepes was best we have ever had! Reserve a table to avoid disappointment or call in for late lunch and then very short ski home at the end of afternoon.

Restaurant du Fer a Cheval

Had a dreadful experience at this restaurant. After a long walk we ordered lunch here and then waited 50 minutes while nothing happened. When we asked where the food was we were told that they were just about to start cooking our lunch. Their explanation was that they had a large booking in and did not seem to understand that we were upset that were not told that when we sat down. I did try to explain that we had two upset and very hungry children waiting with us, but the rather rude manager clearly did not care at all. After that we decided just to leave rather than wait another hour. Overall the staff had an appalling attitude to customers - including hearing one waitress being requested to come to a neighbouring table giving a wave of acknowledgement while whispering under breath "demain" (tomorrow). Do not go to this restaurant if it looks in any way busy. There are better places down the road in Sixt and Samoens.Je réponds à cet avis magnifique comment qualifier un tel personnage intransigeant détestable restez chez vous....

We were delighted to find this restaurant has started opening in the summer. Fabulous views. Lovely food and great service. Check opening times as not open every day but well worth a visit especially to sit on the terrace and watch the waterfalls.

The Sérac's biggest problem is that it is almost always fully booked! But when you do remember to book in advance, the hearty portions of Savoyard cuisine (raclette, fondue, tartiflette etc) and friendly serving staff make for a good meal. The kids menu and range of pizzas also make it an great place for families. The décor is a bit kitsch and tired, but if you really fancy melted cheese in a convivial atmosphere, you can't go far wrong with the Sérac.

3 summer trips to the area and each time we have made a trip to Cascade du Rouget to have lunch here. The Menu is simple and short, it could be seen as pricey but I find it reasonable given the location.Their Tartiflette is so good that out of 3 visits I have only tried something else on the menu as haven't wanted to risk having food envy when my girlfriends Tartiflette arrived. She always says that this has been the best place she has had it and again on this trip she decided this was still true.

Fantastic relaxed dining with great food. Lovely attentive staff, smashing wine list. Can’t recommend eating here highly enough, great place to go with family and friends to enjoy good food. Try the ribs or the burger but they have options for veggies too ......... not the norm for french restaurants but this isn’t your normal french restaurant.

We went here for my partner’s 50th, and she is vegan. I was amazed at the care and attention given to us to make us feel welcome. This place was not only able to make an amazing food for the vegan, but all other meals were top notch! When asking the waitress about local wines she fetched the owner and he recommended the perfect bottle for the meal. Loved it! But the topper of the whole evening is that we forgot a phone on the table and the waitress ran down the road to return it to us. That is what I call FULL SERVICE!!! Amazing!!!

I can’t say or add anything more than everyone before me - this restaurant really was fabulous. The service was exceptional, I can’t remember a time when the staff have been as attentive and friendly to my children. The food was sublime and the ambience, being a small restaurant, was very intimate. Our bill was €211 for 4 of us. However my children ate 3 courses, my husband and I had two. We shared a lovely bottle of wine which was €38 and I had a cocktail on arrival and my husband a beer. All in all, considering the quality of the food, we thought this was good value to be honest. The whole evening was great! We will definitely be back next year, without hesitation.

What I can say is that the food they offer certainly exceeds your expectations when you look at the place outside. We particularly loved beef tartar and burger; the desserts were absolutely fantastic, too. You get a lot of very good and beautiful food for the money you pay, and you can enjoy it on the terrace overlooking the river. Would definitely stop by there again!

Stopped here for lunch, and each ordered a different salad. We expected the usual rustic pile of meat and cheese, but were pleasantly surprised to find an altogether more refined version of savoyard fare. The Assiette de Giffre was particularly good, with a healthy portion of smoked trout, fresh mushrooms with subtle dressing, and baked potatoes with chive cream. Way above average for alpine fare. Service was very friendly and efficient. Must return!
