Nothing is served on plates here. "Verrines" are the small dishes in which the food is served. You choose a selection of sweet and savoury items from the menu, which changes regularly. We had dinner here three times during our four week stay in Rouen. There are not many tables in this small restaurant, so if it is cold or raining, make a booking to ensure a table inside. I recommend the "creme brûlée de foie gras" which is an excellent combination of savoury with a veneer of sweet on top.

Le Pavlova is a French-style teahouse, near the Courthouse of Rouen. It is the Australian (or New Zealander) cake which is an hommage a great baker made after seeing the famous Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova dance that this tea house was named after. For

La Criee Bois Guillaume

Been here several times, had good and average meals, this time was not as good as previous times. We booked a table for five for a friends and family reunion. We were the 1st diners to arrive and they gave us a table of 6 and didn't take the unwanted chair away. If there had been somewhere to put it I would have moved it, It just was a bit awkward having a conversation with a spare seat in the way.The restaurant, I believe is a Canadian style ,chain, fish restaurant, cheerfully decorated with Canadian fishing scenes, memorabilia, model fishing boats of all sizes, English fishing signs, a giant shark and TV's showing nautical themes. It is spacious bright and airy set on 2 floors. The chairs are comfortable modern leatherette the tablecloths wipe clean plastic and the oversized menus a bit irritating when there are a lot of you. Our waitress was very polite but her perfume was overpowering. Me being Mr fussy, also prefers waiting staff to have their hair if it is long tied up and hidden, and she hadn't. She also rushed us to order our drinks and our courses which was annoying as we were the only ones there. More people started to arrive later. We chose the Navigator menu at around 26 euros for 3 courses. The starter arrived before we had finished our aperitif. My Nem de crevettes starter comprised of 3 tiny spring rolls, a tiny dipping sauce and a lettuce leaf. My fellow diners had crab salad served in a glass, oysters and a tepid soup. The mains arrived just before the person with the crab salad had finished eating and they sounded that fact to the waitress who smiled and still put the plate down. Our mains were a generous double fillet of fish in a leek source served in a black skillet, Personally we all prefer food to be served on plates. Fricassee of Coquille St Jacques with saffron rice, sole au gratin, this proved slightly disappointing as it was little bits of sole and not a whole one, I went for mussels and chips, they were ample but dry? My French companions told me that they must be overcooked. English restaurants please take note that we had plenty of crusty French bread with both courses which was topped up without us having to ask, and pain siegle, a very dark brown bread for the oysters. The waitress also served our wine for us for the earlier part of the meal. Our desserts arrived again before we had all finished our mains. We had flavoured macaroons, a large creme brulee, moelleux au chocolate, melting middle pud to me, and I had a feathery light apple lattice, which they managed to burn, and ice cream. True to form they served the coffee before we had finished our desserts and we sent it back. We also were served the bill without asking. Two of our party wanted more coffee so it was duly sent back and the extra coffees added on. Our French friends thought they should not have added the extra coffees on considering their haste. We will still go back as it has an ideal location for us and a huge car park. Maybe they will do better on our next visit as we know they can.

We visited here this evening with no reservation, staff were friendly and smiley, being generous with my terrible French and their brilliant English. Dinner was beautiful, galettes, salad, sweet crepes and frites were all delicious, and a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.

Booked for Sunday lunch. Menu reflect local cuisine, which is what we wanted. Enjoyed the meal, traditional plates well cooked; nothing particularly wow. Did not really care for the decor, especially the clown paintings! Perhaps a bit old fashioned, but maybe that's just our taste. Overall, enjoyed our afternoon lunch.

I was warmly welcomed as a solo diner both times I visited. The lovely hostess/server brings over the blackboard/ardoise menu, 3-4 choices each of entrée/appetizer, plat/main, and dessert and translates into English if needed. Each time I was brought a tiny chilled amuse-bouche, once a rectangle of herby roasted potato topped with a pouf of creamy smoked salmon, once a little pot of chopped shrimp with marinated dried tomato, both refreshing on warm evenings. I loved the texture of the Neufchâtel fried in a crispy golden crust, warm and oozy against a cool apple chutney and green salad. Cod/ cabaillaud came with a light coconut curry sauce and rice. The êntrecote was a huge piece of steak, perfectly cooked and tasty, though a bit on the chewy side, served with Camembert stuffed potato and a bit of green salad. Both times the restaurant was pleasantly busy with a combination of locals and visitors, some light background music but not at all noisy, really lovely!

Very nice and excellent place to have lunch in Rouen. Small, very good service, normal prices. We had the menu of the day.First dish was 3 types of mushrooms ( the newest of the season) ; some cooked some not, with a sauce ...Great. The main was a Saint Jacques (a fish) that was great in a combination os spinach and sauce Excellent. The cheeses I chose were from Normandy also Great. The dessert and apple Granny Smith so good! The set menu for the day was 35€ without the cheese and with the selection went to 47€. Very good choice. Better prices than in Paris. Rouen is only 1 hour 12' by train from Paris. It is worth a visit you can go and return the same day.
