My daughter's Italian friend constantly raved about this being one of the best Italian restaurants outside Italy, and persuaded my daughter to go. Our daughter then raved to us, so one lunchtime we went along to try it.On a hot, sunny day the cool exterior of the restaurant was a very nice change from the heat at home. We had reserved - which I recommend, otherwise you probably won't get a table - and the welcome was friendly and efficient. The shady terrace is really very nice, and no one was smoking, which was a plus. There were also lots of Italian families there, which is always a good sign. The menu is good - check it out online, it's pretty much the same as onsite. There were 4 of us and we started with an aperitif: the Spritz maison, which was very refreshing. As a starter we shared the Focaccia Paradis'O which was also very good. For the main courses, this is where it got a bit 'iffy'. Our daughter ordered a Formaggi pizza, which I tried and it was VERY good. It seems to be one of the restaurant's strong points, they make great pizza! My wife had the Penne alla Parmese, which I also tried ;-) and it too was very good.I had the lasagne and I must say that it was very disappointing. Both the presentation (a pile of minced beef and bits of pasta in a bowl), and the taste were poor. The quantity was OK, but I'm used to lasagne having a 'structure' and specific 'look', not just a heap of lasagne ingredients piled in a pasta bowl. To be honest, it looked like some leftovers that someone had just scraped out of the dish it was cooked in and dumped in a bowl. It was also pretty tasteless. As I said, very disappointing. Our son had the XXL hamburger, and this too was..odd. Yes I know - who goes to an Italian restaurant and orders a hamburger? Anyway, I suppose it's meant to be their interpretation of what a hamburger should look like, but it doesn't work. It certainly is XXL - the biggest beef patty I've ever seen on a 'hamburger'. But then instead of a 'bun' it's encased in some kind of thin bread - like that kind of Arabic bread, almost like a thin pizza base, or pitta bread. I didn't try this one - it just didn't look right at all. Certainly my son didn't like it and barely got halfway through it.So, it seemed a bit like pot luck as to whether we got a good dish or not, but I suspect that the restaurant's true forte is the more 'traditional' Italian food, like pizza and tubular pasta. But why not lasagne too? This would seem to be borne out my my daughter and her Italian friend's comments - they always order either pizza of tubular pasta. As desserts I had a tiramisu and others shared an ice-cream sundae thing. While the tiramisu was light enough and creamy, it wasn't special. And the same was said about the other dessert - it was "OK".We had some water and a bottle of red (Campo Reale), which was quite good. The total price: €165, which is quite expensive, when you think about it (a pizza, a hamburger,...).So, the service is good. The parking is good. The terrace and atmosphere is good. They're trying to be an 'up-market' Italian restaurant, and in certain ways it's working. But I would recommend sticking to the pizza or tubular pasta dishes, which are very good, but the rest is average at best.

Really good hotel with swimming pool in mougins. Getting the hotel to serve us food proved somehow very difficult at lunchtime ... not sure why but younger staff tried to accommodate us nonetheless. Didn't spend much time there being here for a wedding but enjoyed the lovely pool in the morning. Our room has a cool outdoor terrasse. Dear Laura,Thank you for posting this review on TripAdvisor! Our restaurant is open from noon to 2pm and sometimes, that's true, we are full, but as you said, our staff is trying to propose something to eat at our hotel customers everytime we can. That's why we ask our customers to book a table in advance everytime they arrive at La Lune de Mougins. We hope to have many more opportunities to host you at La Lune de Mougins.Sincerely yours,Michèle DeschampsDirector

An OK place to stop for drinks, but at lunchtime when there were only maybe 10 people (including the three of us) the service was dire. Wine by the glass not reasonable either. Better off going to the bar further along that is part of Le Mediterranee ... better service and more reasonably priced wine. With so few people it shouldn't be necessary to chase staff for a second glass of wine or wave them down (as did the people at a table nearby). At least the view is great.

Good lunch choice in the old town of Mougins. The back room has VERY LOW CEILING BEAMS so watch your head! That said, it was comfortable during a really hot day.Servers were very engaging personable and efficient. The soupe de poisson, while adequate did not have the depth of favor found elsewhere . The tuna tartare was outstanding and served, perhaps not classic pairing, with perfect and delicious frites .Pleasant and worthwhile

We went to this restaurant hoping for great food and wonderful views. We got good, but not really great food and a sort of half view ( as much of the view of the hills around mougins is obscured by trees and strange telegraph type poles just by the restaurant. ) The restaurant was very busy with lots of large groups of people and the food seemed all a bit formulaic and it was all just a bit rushed, service was perfunctory and seemed to be all about just getting the numbers of people through the place.

Love the service, food and atmosphere. Disappointed by how they treat tourists. We chose the fixed price 3 course 45 Euro meal but shocked when receiving the bill they charged us the a la carte prices. When we queried this they said you should have explained this fully at the time of ordering!! We had to pay an extra 24 Euros for two of us- left us with a bad taste.Dear Smilecreator, We are so sorry to read that. Be sure that we have the same treatment for locals and tourists ! About this little misstake, the meal does'nt include the same dishe than "A la carte". That why it's not the same price. SOrry for the misstake during the explaination and the bad taste because of that ... Your faithfully, La Gaudinade

Moreover wine was terrible...How is it possible to be so well rated? Barely I give 3 stars out of 5! NOT WORTH IT!We are so sorry for these bad experience. A lot of people love this place, home made and fresh product, not too expensive for the quality, also the service, professional and friendly. Also we have a very nice wine menu low price, and you can test all the wine before drinking. So can you accept all our excuses for that. ???

When I have visitors stay I take them here. Precisely to have a French culinary experience. Naturally, for a reasonable price. Imperative to go at mid-day for the Menu otherwise prices are unaffordable for many. The service, personnelle not to mention the food (nearest you will get to a *Michelin) is superb. After, don’t forget to walk round Mougins old town which is very pretty also great views of surrounding area. You can park your car no charge just before (on the left) you arrive to the village or drive into the village and there is parking provided just bellow.
