We first called into Cittanuova for drinks at the bar after a disappointing experience with poor service in the Rowdy Hall. We liked the atmosphere and the service at the bar, so we went back for dinner the next day and again for drinks at the bar the day after. I loved their cocktail special of Empress 1908 gin and tonic. The food for dinner was very good - I chose Pasta Nero and asked if it could be prepared without garlic, which wasn't a problem. My husband chose Tagliata, a very good sliced strip steak. They also serve quartino measures of wine, which meant we could enjoy two different wines. Our server for dinner (Guiovani, I think) was excellent - friendly, helpful and he seemed to be genuinely happy in his work.I would highly recommend Cittanuova.

Went for lunch on a Saturday, mid afternoon, not crowded, sat in a booth; very old and not too comfortable, waiters efficient and friendly. had the classic cheeseburger; ok but not great, stingy with the cheese, the roll was not up to par for a place like this; grocery store grade. My wife had the grilled chicken gyro which was excellent but WAAAAY to big to the point it could not be picked up to eat! Messy! had to use knife and fork to eat and brought home the leftovers for another full meal! Fries were crispy and tasty but overly salty. Ice water was top notch!

Rowdy Hall

Reviewed By Bluesprout61

We called into Rowdy Hall on a Sunday afternoon, initially just for a drink. Dermot, the bartender, was excellent - really helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. We asked to look at the menu, thinking we might call back later to eat. Dermot described all of the specials and explained that there would be a limited menu between 3.30 and 5pm, for the changeover between lunch and dinner. As it was already around 2.30, we decided to stay for lunch, after we’d finished our drinks. It all went downhill after that ...We chose a table and a server arrived to take a drinks order. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir (Dermot had kindly given us a taste of it at the bar). Our server asked a couple of times if we had any questions about the menu. He didn’t at any point mention any of the specials. When we chose our meals, I asked for the shrimp sandwich special, which Dermot had said came with potato chips, fries or greens. I wasn’t offered this choice by the server, he just said “It comes with potato chips.” His colleague did come over later to ask if I wanted to change to a different side order, but it all sounded like it was too much trouble for them. My husband ordered a Croque Madame - ie a Croque Monsieur with a fried egg on top. The server asked how he’d like his egg fried. When it arrived there was no egg. At no point did anybody ask if everything was okay with our meal, so my husband had to wait until our server topped up our water glasses to point out that he hadn’t had an egg and to ask him to make sure we weren’t charged for it. My husband then heard the two servers talking about it and the female server saying “Does he want the egg now, then?” She then walked past us, so my husband told her that he didn’t want the egg. Her reply was indiscernible, but sounded like “Meh.” There was certainly no sign of any sort of apology from anybody for getting the order wrong. The food was good, but it felt as if we were imposing on them by choosing to eat just before the changeover period and everything was rushed. My husband’s plate was whisked away as soon as he’d finished, but before I had, and then when I’d finished my sandwich, my plate was snatched away, along with the remaining potato chips, which were in a separate bowl. The server didn’t think to ask whether I was still eating them, and as he’d put his hand right over the top of them to take them away, I certainly wasn’t going to ask him to put them back down. He also kept topping up our wine glasses as if he wanted to rush us through the bottle. When there was a bit left (maybe half a glass each) in the bottle, he looked at it and asked whether we thought we would finish it. We said yes, then when he came back, we asked why he’d asked the question and he said “Well if you can’t finish it, I could put a cork in it for you. Or I could help you out with it.” It was a nice bottle of wine, which we wanted to savour during and after our meal, but he completely spoiled that experience for us.When we paid the bill, we scored out the gratuity line, to make it clear that we don’t tip for poor service and bad attitude. We did, however, give Dermot a cash tip when we left, as he clearly deserved it.

We decided to have dinner here. We both ordered the Simple Lettuces/Salad. The dressing was outstanding we go downhil from here. My Beach Plum Farms Pork Shank with Anson Mill's polenta, red wine sauce was awful. The pork was overly fatty and no taste, I couldn't find the red wine sauce, but I got brussel sprouts that we just boiled. My husband ordered the Long Island Porgy Filet. He thought the fish was ok as was the brocolinni, but the tomato vinaigrette was a watered down version of ketchup. He would have rather had tarter sauce. I picked at my meal and then mentioned it to the waitstaff. The waitstaff was terrific, happy and smiling. A manager came over and told me he was not charging me for my dinner offered to get me something else, brought us more wine at no charge and served us dessert. Another manager wanted my constructive criticism so they can provide better service and food. In all this review is covering the food and not the staff. We had booked a reservation, but discovered that oysters were $1 apiece at the bar during Happy Hours that lasted till 6:30 Mon-Thur. It was Thursday. With that we moved to the bar, had a dozen each and then shared a good 8 ounce burger for our dinner. Enjoyed the food, and the best bargain for our dinner in a costly place like Sag Harbor where restauranteurs have to make a year's income in less than 4 months.

Dockside Bar & Grill

Reviewed By StephenN1694

Yeah my review is late but it's still all good. During our Hamptons trip, we made our way to Sag Harbor to check out the town and had no dinner reservations. After walking the town, getting ice cream, taking pics and the girls ducked into a couple stores, we decided to grab dinner. We looked up trusty ol TA and decided to walk to Dockside. The place was packed and so we put our names down and said you know what, we'll go grab a spot at the bar. Luckily for us, I got there in time for a couple to leave, leaving 4 chairs together so I grabbed them all for us. Little did we know, we would be there for a bit so thanking our lucky stars here. We started with some drinks and thought maybe let's do a couple apps while we wait. So we ordered some calamari, some spring rolls and a dozen oysters. We also were there long enough to get 2 rounds. Our server was Lucie (according to my receipt) and she was great. She let us try some samples of wine before deciding. She kept our water glasses full and was a good source of banter. We hung out at the bar for about an hour (told you we were there for a but) and cost of 2 rounds, the 3 apps, tax and tip, the bill came out to about 190 bucks - nothing in the Hamptons is cheap unfortunately. We would say that hanging out at the bar all night would actually be a great way to spend the evening. But this was not all for us. Our host came and told us our table outside was ready and so we closed our bar bill and walked outside. Full disclosure - we told them we were good inside or out and we got a table outside. Outside is nothing special - you're on the land facing side of the street not the water facing side so the view wasn't all that special. We sat down and got our menus. At this point, we've had some food and we're 2 rounds in but we soldiered on. We decided let's all do an entree and share an order of scallops. Abe got the salmon, his wife the lobster bucatini. I got the pot pie and my gf the steak. We also ordered some chowder and a bunch of drinks. Our server was pretty on point - Ademar from Florida who was working the Hamptons during the summer (he said he does this yearly and he was very good - even taking Abe's salmon back when he said it was too salty and making him a new order). Tax, tip, 5 entrees (including scallops that we shared), 1 round of drinks - bill came out to 315 bucks or so. So end of the day, 500 bucks but 3+ rounds of drinks for 4 people, 3 apps at the bar, 5 entrees and chowder at dinner, tax and tip, 2 ways to experience Dockside - either the bar if you have to wait or not or if you're lucky enough to score a table quickly if you don't already have a reservation - both ways to experience Dockside would be a good way to spend the evening in Sag Harbor.
