Knoebels has some great ice cream, but if you want something different, you can get Italian Water Ice here. It's also a nice place to eat that usually doesn't get too crowded & the seating along the creek is nice (check out the swan family). The menu seems to change annually...they had awesome waffle fries & a Knoebels dog (with a large pickle slice), but they may or may not still be available.

We were here for breakfast. Start was tiny sweet rolls...just enough. I had cream chipped beef on a ham and cheese omelet. Some of the best SOS I've ever had. The servings are ample. The service staff is pleasant and attentive. The prices are too low for the quality and content but fit the depressed region. Close to my home town so this will be a regular stop.

Yes, as previous reviews state, the price is about $4+ for a hotdog and hamburger but it's worth it! The taste and quality haven't changed which is great! Of course it's your natural hole in the wall establishment in a more than depressed area but it's never waiver on keeping some good guilty pleasure food in the area!

Such a ridiculously large selection and incredibly tasty food; along with very pleasant service. Can't beat that! We ate at the restaurant but noticed they seem to do a healthy take-out business too. The food was really very good and reasonably priced. If in the area again, would definitely stop here

Knoebels Alamo has changed a bit. Their Hot Sausage had little flavor. The onions and peppers were boiled in water, instead of grilled. Still good coleslaw, but the French Fries were limp (as if they were sitting around for 4 hours). I pumped ketchup........but it didn't help. We threw half of it away

Stopped for a night of live music with friends. Always a good time for an area that lacks entertainment opportunities. Owner supports local music and other events within the community. Good selection of drinks and seating. Very clean throughout a big plus. Waitresses friendly and kept busy. Plenty of parking it's never an issue. Will always support businesses that support community. Separate rooms for dining, some tables off the sides of stage section with a long bar complete with backed stools.

Mays Drive-In Restaurant

Nice little Drive In that's a real throwback kind of place. You need to know what you're in for going in, so temper your expectations. It seemed to staffed entirely by local high school students the afternoon we went in. They were all very friendly and happy to help, but obviously these aren't terribly experienced line cooks. Everything here is going to be slapped on the grill or tossed in a fryer, often straight from the freezer. The kids went for hot dogs and chicken strips, both of which came with a generous helping of fries and a coupon for a free dessert after their meal. They were perfectly fine. My one friend and my wife both went with the chicken parmesan sandwich while my other friend went with the pulled pork special. Both platers were extremely poor, resembling what you'd find in a high school cafeteria of yesteryear. With that said, I'm not quite sure what they were expecting. I went with the fried chicken basket. It was a much better choice, consisting of two huge chicken breasts that were fried just right, still maintaining their moisture inside their crispy, cholesterol-laden shell. It was accompanied with a pile of french fries and a small dish of institutional-style cole slaw. After lunch, everyone had desserts, and that's where this place shines. My peanut butter soft serve was delicious, and generously sized for a small. The kids loved their chocolate soft serve and slush puppy, and the generic "Flying Saucer" ice cream sandwiches were good as well.May's is your stereotypical old school drive-in style restaurant. Don't stray too far from burgers, hot dogs and simple fried dishes and you'll probably be okay. Prices are right, and service is friendly. There aren't a ton of choices in Ashland to eat, and if May's isn't the best of them, at least it is a reliable choice.

My extended family and I (four adults, two children under age 5) stopped here for breakfast on our way to Knoebel's Grove on a Sunday, mainly because it's one of the only options along our route and relatively close (15 minutes) from the camprgound/park. Next time we'll drive straight through...Village Towne is a fairly standard no-frills family restaurant. After seating ourselves (there is no hostess), we were given menus fairly quickly and our drink orders were taken. So far, so good. Our drinks were brought out by another waitress who then took our breakfast order. And then we proceeded to wait. And wait. And wait some more. After 25 minutes of waiting until our food came out with no word from our sever, my wife tracked her down and asked if it would be much longer. After all, our young children, who are no strangers to dining out, were getting a bit restless at this point. I should also mention that the restaurant was not even half full at this point, and we had seen numerous customers that arrived after us receive their food. When my wife asked about the status of our food, the waitress asked "where are you sitting again"? Not a good sign. She then said "your food will be out in just a minute". We all strongly suspected she had never even put in our order. When the food took another 10 minutes to arrive, we pretty much knew we were right. No apologies or explanation from the waitress. She never checked up on us again after than, and we had to go find her once again to ask for our check. She said she would bring it momentarily. We waited ANOTHER almost 10 minutes, she still had not brought our check, so we just went to the register to ask for a bill so we could pay and leave. She hastily started adding it up, and it took almost 5 minutes for her to tally the check and process our payment. All told, from the time we walked through the door to the time we left, we were in Village Towne restaurant for over an hour and a half - for breakfast. Being from NJ, we eat out at diners and family restaurants all the time, and this was without a doubt the worst service we've ever received. It would have been more tolerable had our waitress given some sort of apology or explanation, but neither were provided. As to the food, the toast was really just warm bread - no crispiness to it at all, probably because it was made hastily when they realized they did not process our original order. Pancakes were very large (one could easily feed two hungry children), but a bit on the chewy side. Creamed chipped beef was better than average, but not a standout. Scrapple was excellent. Their menu offered "french toast made with blueberries, or topped with blueberry compote". My mother ordered it with blueberries, and when it arrived, it came plain. When she asked for the blueberry french toast instead, our waitress said that this wasn't an option - just for the blueberry compote "topping". When we pointed to the fact that the menu specifically stated they had an option containing real blueberries, she said "I'm not sure why it says that, I'll have to check". We never did get an explanation, as that was the last time she stopped by our table until we tracked her down to (try to) get our check. About the only thing this restaurant has going for it is that the portions are large and the prices are very reasonable. That's what kept it from getting a one-star rating. However, the abysmal service turns this location into one we will not take a chance on again, regardless if it is the only option for miles or not...Avoid, unless you truly have a few hours to kill over a mediocre meal...
