We have been here sever times. Couple times for lunch as well as dinner. This was our second attempt at Sunday brunch. The decor is upgraded bar with a separate bar-hi top tables in front and standard sitting in rear.We have found the service seriously lacking and slow. The servers tend to stand at the end of the bar and talk, laugh and carry on even when you have your bill and credit card in the air hoping someone will pick it up.This last visit my wife had the breakfast sandwich and thought it was very good. She had the Brussel sprouts as a side and thought they were good also.I had the eggs Benedict and they were not good. First they were cold, second the yolks were hard. I sent them back and when the replacement arrived it was not much better. We almost got up and left after 40 minutes when our food had not arrived. The place was less than half full at 10:15 am so don’t understand the slowness. Edwardsville has lots of choices for meals. Not sure we will try again. My rating if by myself would be 1 Star. So this is tempered by what my wife had.

After reading the reviews on TripAdvisor I was not sure what to expect. The restaurant is located in a area away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is in a semi secluded area filled with trees making it a peaceful setting especially if on the large patio. The food was excellent and not pricey at all. There were four of us and we ordered two orders of the Salmon, chicken tacos, and the meatloaf. The portions are large and the food was very good. I ordered the meatloaf and it was moist, the bacon was not over cooked, the mashed potatoes were creamy, and the green beans were cooked just right. The only issue we had was one of the Salmon orders had a section that was under cooked. That kept this from being a Five Star reveiw. The bar drinks were a good size, and surprised us by not being expensive as other reviews mentioned. I paid 7.50 for a large Tanguiray martini which is less than most other places. The waitress was attentive and gave us some good advice about the menu. She split a salad for my wife and I which was very nice.We were there in the evening and there was plenty of parking. We came from South St Louis and it was a easy 45 min drive.Thank you so much for dining with us! We are glad so much of your experience was positive and will work with our line cooks on preparing the salmon. We do cook the salmon to medium so if it was not that way, I apologize. If you do prefer it cooked more than medium just let us know and we will make it happen. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

My wife and I usually go here on Wednesday nights. They have a steak special called Wild West Wednesday for $10! It is amazing. You get an 8oz sirloin with two sides. I suggest getting your steak medium and topped with mushrooms and onions. You can get an 11oz sirloin for $11, if you want to upgrade the size. You cannot go wrong with this deal. We leave here sooo full. We also use the call ahead seating because there is usually a long wait, but using that option, the longest we've had to wait is 8 minutes! I challenge you to try and find a better tasting steak dinner at a basement bargain price like this ANYWHERE!

Bigelo's Bistro

Reviewed By JMCSTL

Bigelo's has a narrow storefront on the east side of North Main in Edwardsville, so it could be easy to miss as you were driving by. But once inside, you'll be treated to brightly colored walls decorated with lots of colorful modern art paintings and a mix of plain & painted 2 & 4-top tables with chairs (with high chairs avaiable for youngsters). Its layout & features are more bar & grill than bistro, with a small bar & seating area near the kitchen divided off by a half-wall from a main front dining area. They also have a very small patio out back with 4 or 5 tables, a couple with umbrellas. There's plenty of free public parking behind the business row containing the restaurant, so don't be tempted to park in the reserved spaces along the south side of the building.I made this first visit to Bigelo's on a Saturday in late spring around noontime, just as the nearby weekly community market event was wrapping up. The restaurant had just one other customer when I walked in, but it started to fill quickly as I was served & enjoyed my lunch. All of the young ladies on the staff were very friendly & attentive (especially my server, Jori), and my wait time for food was reasonable for items freshly prepared. Based on previous TA reviewers' recommendations (thank you), I upcharged to a small spinach salad as my side item & it was one of the best tasting salads of its kind that I've had (with enough "small" to bring leftovers home for supper). My Chicken Guy chicken breast sandwich was simply prepared & dressed, well cooked but still moist with light seasoning & fresh garden toppings. I had just enough room left to try a small scoop of their housemade ice cream (butterscotch pecan that day), which wasn't particularly creamy but had good flavor & was worth the $1.75 charge. My total bill with soft drink (free refills) and tip was $22, which I felt was a very reasonable price for a flavorful & filling lunch in a very enjoyable atmosphere.I would recommend Bigelo's Bistro as a lunch or dinner stop for singles, couples or families of all ages. The menu has variety, the food prep & quality are very good, and the staff will make you feel welcome from beginning to end. And be sure to enjoy the artwork while you're there - it serves as an appetizer for the eyes.

While visiting historic Cahokia Mounds and the Lewis & Clark State Historic Site and reliving old memories when I lived in Collinsville, Illinois, in 1966-1968, my wife and I decided to have dinner at the 1818 Chophouse in Edwardsville. From my research, it is rated as the No. 1 restaurant on Illinois side of the Mississippi River, opposite St. Louis. But there wasn't anything like it at the East Side in the 1960s. Located at 210 South Buchanan Street, east of Main and Vandalia, 1818 Chophouse opened in 2012, offering steaks and seafood and Sunday brunch in a stone and wood accented space with an outdoor patio. We started with bruschetta, deviled eggs, brandied shrimp bisque and Caesar salad. And, looking at a nearby table, I was tempted to order Buffalo prawns with bacon and creamy blue cheese mascarpone. But I didn't want to spoil my appetite for my entree, rainbow trout meuniere with garlic whipped potatoes and sauteed baby spinach. My wife chose flame grilled salmon with creamy lobster, charred broccoli and red pepper risotto. They suited our more fish/less meat diet to a tee. For dessert, we shared portions of key lime pie and creme brulee. At a restaurant like 1818 Chophouse, we always try to sample as many dishes as we can. It's easy to see why it is a popular destination for folks in this area.

Such a shame! The owner needs to get back involved instead of opening other places. Today was the second time in a row that we had poor service and cold food. Had to ask for straws, which is not a problem, however she forgot to bring them. Asked for an appetizer of garlic bread to be served first. After reminding 2 different servers that we didn't receive it, it finally arrived after we had eaten most of our main course. No apology was given. My first post raved about it. Now-not so much.falcon5683,We assure you that the owners are still very involved in the businesses. Reading feedback like this is never easy, but we really appreciate you taking the time to give an honest review of your experience. I'm really sorry to hear that we fell short and that your service was less than ideal. We've noted everything you wrote and are going to work hard to avoid this in the future.
