When we arrived in Furtwangen for the night after traveling the Black Forest, we searched for a restaurant for dinner. The choices were few and far between. We settled on Gasthaus Bad because of the extensive menu and the look of the place. When we got there that evening, we were concerned because of all the cars outside. Luckily, the local chess club was meeting there that evening, so we were able to get a table with a lot of locals. It is family run with Mom as the Hostess, the son as chef and daughter-in-law in barge of the staff. Not only did they speak English, which our hotel didn't, the New York license plate made one feel at home. We knew we were in trouble when they removed the table centerpiece to have room for the plates. From venison and boar stew to salmon to cordon bleu, the quality was remarkable. Unfortunately we were so full we couldn't try the desserts. We all got big hugs from Momma when we left. It was a delightful evening and a wonderful surprise. I would highly recommend Gasthaus Bad to anyone in that region of Germany.

We had a dinner here having being recommended by the Hotel we we're staying in. It really was an excellent meal proving that German food can really good and tasty & not just pork & sauerkraut! Excellent, highly recommended.

This restaurant appears to be in the middle of nowhere and is very interesting with an odd collection of curios hanging around. There are no individual tables and everyone sits together on long benches. However, having said that we were the only 2 people eating on the night we went. With the help of the staff because of our limited German my wife and I both had beef dishes - mine was a sort of goulash and my wife's was two thick slices of meat. Both were very good but a bit salty.

Very fast service on a busy saturday evening, but they didn't serve all our 5 meals together. My bbq burger came more than 5 minutes before the rest. Since i didnt want to eat alone my meal was getting cold by the time the other meals arrived.Too much bbq sauce on my burger wich it covered the taste of the meat and bacon.

This place is a gem. We were recommended it by a local shopkeeper in Schonwald - and found it a few miles through some mountain roads, at the bottom of a ski-run. Lovely old gasthof, full of Black Forest charm with a regular menu of schnitzel and meat.I was fully resigned to another plate of salad and french fries, but was pleasantly surprised when my fiancee pointed to a vegetarian dish on the menu. The waiter confirmed it was completely vegetarian and I dived-in...The plate that arrived was superb. A smorgasbord of different root veg and legumes, all cooked nicely and although most of it was braised or fried, it wasn't heavy in the slightest. Even brough me around to the dreaded fenell! I hate that root, but this braised version was absolutely delicious, I'm converted.If you get a chance to visit this place GO, the food was superb (all my meat-eating partners loved it) and the ambience and staff were superb.recommended unreservedly.

The Fohrenhof is beautifully located on top of Unterkirnach's "south hill" called part and overlooking the valley. As the name suggest this is the south side of the town with plenty of sun in winter and summer time. The Fohrenhof is located next to the Hapimag vacation village.Unterkirnach itself is tourist destination in summer (hiking, biking etc.) and winter time (skiing, nordic ski).What I like+ This is a Caritas run restaurant with some staff members being disabled. You can help these people to live an ordinary life by having dinner there+ Good, local, fresh food for a reasonable price+ Plenty of parking space+ Large patio+ Modern but comforable setup with a large wood burning fireplace in the middle+ Friendly staffWhat I didn't like- no Internet or WiFi connection (even mobile phones have access problems)I can recommend the Fohrenhof for all kinds of visits - family dinners, business dinners, birthdays ... you name it.

Heute waren wir zum ersten Mal nach der Neueröffnung wieder im Auerhahn. Bei dem schönen Wetter saÃen wir drauÃen. Ich bestellte einen Wurstsalat. Ein Wurstsalat, der ohne Zwiebeln und ohne EssigGurken kam. Nun ja, vielleicht ist das die Note des neuen Kochs? Aber was macht dann die rote Beete auf dem Wurstsalat, deren Flussigkeit sich schön mit dem Rest für mich d? Und was macht das verwelkte Salatblatt auf dem Wurstsalat?Der Service war völlig verpeilt, z.b. konnte er nicht zwischen Groà und Klein bei den Getränken unterscheiden, auch beim zweiten Versuch weià noch das falsche Getränk.Meine Frau bestellte eine Suppe und im Anschluss zum Ende des Essens einen Cappuccino. Wie sehr waren wir überrascht, als die Bedienung erklärte, dass Cappuccino und andere Kaffeesorten nur drinnen serviert werden würden, also wir hätten umziehen müssen bei strahlender Sonne nach dem Essen in den dunklen Innenraum. Die Toiletten waren nicht renoviert und sehr dreckig. Hier könnte jemand mal zwischendurch sauber machen. Das einzig positive an der Geschichte war, für uns, wie wir am Ende feststellten, dass der Kellner sich auch noch verrechnete... da auch die neben Tische sehr unzufrieden waren, kann man nur sagen, das nennt man wohl einen klassischen Fehlstart bei einer Neueröffnung.

Loved the restaurant food and staff we also stayed at the hotel. Beautiful comfy and clean rooms =) It is perfrect to stay here. Staff are very friendly and try to help you in any way.

Our visit to Freiburg and the Black Forrest finished with a surprising Lunch in this Restaurant. They offer regional meals, where Young and older people can find a great variety. The Chef selects and prepares Special dishes and we finished really satisfied..Congrats!
