Fabulous cabins

Reviewed By Andrew M

I must admit I was a bit concerned about coming here. Although the cabins looked fantastic I could see the site is a very large campsite and was concerned on the location of the cabins. Thankfully the cabins are located in a very private spot near the campsite and the complete site is very tastefully arranged to give everybody their own space and privacy. The sat NAV had a bit of a struggle finding this place and we eventually arrived at the wrong side of the park. I walked across to the hotel to find it complete empty and the adjoining restaurant closed down. The complete site looked shut. We travelled back to the village to get around to the other side of the park and eventually found the reception which was also closed. A quick telephone call to the number on the door was soon answered and we were directed to our cabin. There are two self catering cabins which are fabulous. They have an excellent location and are fully equipped. The wooden bath is quite a novelty and a challenge to fill. There is also a shower hidden away in a very small room to the side of the bed. The toilet is immediately in front of the shower and has less pace than some yachts I have been on. This is an excellent location to explore the surrounding area and a very comfortable cabin. We made use of the log stove as the temperature dipped. Although some parts of the site look very dated and the hotel and restaurant is closed it's a great spot and the cabins are fabulous.

Simple campground

Reviewed By Miranda P

Simple Campground with spaces for tents/caravans and some rental accommodation. There is a pool on premises as well as (outdated but free) mini golf. Simple restaurant/ bar is also available. In the are there is a volcano which is worth a visit, but for the rest there are not a lot of things to do. There is a supermarket at 10 minutes drive (quite far on foot). The campground is simple, nothing spectacular about it, but also nothing bad. We rented a holiday home (trailer), which was very clean and new, but the walls were exceptionally thin. It did contain anything simple one would need (four needs/ two bedrooms)

Lovely open camp site on river

Reviewed By FordWetley

Stunning location. Can pitch anywhere by side of river or more open space. Can swim from camp site beach on rubber rings. Great for kayakers. A grade 2 river trip from Prades to Camp site 15km. Or camp site to Lavoûte-Chilhac 17km (watch out for first weir, portage and second weir go to the right, easy). Can hire sit upon kayaks in most villages. Tonic Adventure in Langeac will drop you at Prades for 24E per boat and took us with our kayaks. Further up stream is a Grade 3/4, only to be done with knowledge. Great for walking into town, lovely town with a market, shops, a few bars and restaurants. 3 supermarkets within 5 mins drive. Excellent Adventure park on the other side of bridge with zip wires across river. We had a map and found a quite road all along river to cycle to Chilhac where there is a bar, museum and then onto Lavoûte-Chilhac for lunch. Last bit Chilhac very hilly. You can hire electric bikes from camp site. The area is volcanic so interesting basalt cliffs. The picture is the beach from camp site. A great active holiday for family with older kids.

ECO BIO ??? étonnant !

Reviewed By IsabelleP1806

Found site eventually after all Satnavs got confused. It would help for site to add directions to their Website. Staff were very helpful after a confusing time locating pitch due to presence of old numbers!! Nicely wooded site with pitches randomly amongst the trees. Toilet block excellent. Good Motorhome driveover facility for grey water and fresh water tap. Nicely located for trip to Puy de Dôme.

Fabulous!

We stayed for a night in early September. The people who run this place are warm and friendly. Facilities clean. We camped in a lovely quiet spot next to a river. Restaurant food was great. The well tended campsite has a feel of care and gentleness - a herb garden and beehives are examples of this. Highly recommended. Thank you.

Camping Moulin de Chaules

The camp site, situated by a crystal clear brook, is part of a former water mill. There are 55 camping pitches, of different sizes. Apart from the pitches situated by the border of the brook, there are also a range of terraces. These terraces are nicely private due to the wide green belts in between them. The entire property, in harmony with the surroundings, was formerly part of the rural "Chaules" estate. The ruins of the old castle, owned by our neighbour, rise high above the trees and can be visited (at your own risk since parts are a little unstable). During the high-season (July / August) the camp site is very family oriented with a wide range of facilities for all ages. Out of season, the camp site is very popular with people who prefer a quiet, spacious site with lots of opportunities for walking, excursions, etc.

Beautiful site with character.

We found this on Searchforsites, and turned up unannounced to be made very welcome. We had a choice of pitches, being at the tail end of the season. The owners were most helpful. They said they don’t get many Brits, mainly Dutch folk. As they have good facilities, including decent Saint Emilion in the bar, and free Wi-fi I’d like to recommend them, for next year as they are about to end their season. There is a great butcher in Saint Constant, and the area is lovely. Don’t miss the caves at Padirac.
