Residences Port Minervois / Les Hauts du Lac

This resort is situated along the Canal du Midi, which has been classified by Unesco as a Word Heritage site, and is next to Homps; a magnificent small typical Languedoc village. The Jouarres Lake is a paradise for water sports or a tranquil place to relax. Here you'll find everything that makes it possible to enjoy a high quality holiday in a rare and authentic place. The residence proposes 2, 3, 4, 5 room villas as well as villas with a private swimming pool. Reception, 2 swimming pools of approximately 150m², laundry, fitness room, hammam, whirlpool, 2 tennis courts, beach-volley, mini-golf, games room, table tennis, play area for children, sports ground, "petanque" area, bar and minimarket. This place is ideally located to visit this unique land, the Minervois, the Cathar country, its cellars and wine domains.

Not a great experience.

This place could have so easily ended up with 4 stars on this review. With just a few tweaks and a bit more customer service it would have been so different. We only stayed 2 nights as a stopover. That was enough to be honest. The customer service and staff were terrible. We had a few issues during the 2 days and there was nobody around to help. The reception was closed most of the time apart from check-in and check-out. You couldn't actually get near reception during these times because it was so busy. So you had no point of contact. I called the emergency numbers provided and got no answer and I emailed them 4 times and still got no response whatsoever. 5 days later I'm still waiting for the office to call me. Our check in took 1hr 30 minutes and we were near the front of the queue. People were waiting hours in 35 degree heat, no shade, no water and no info provided. There were only 2 people on reception to deal with about 40 check-ins and they were slow and disorganised. We never found the shop, bar and restaurant and never got an answer on where they actually were. There were no staff at the pool as stated and it was quite crowded, even with the site fairly empty. The apartment was ok. No oven or washing machine and no air con. It was way too hot to sleep in there. We would have liked to have been able to open the patio doors but we had a dog with us and they put us in an apartment with no fence or enclosed area so we couldn't open the doors or the dog would get out. Really disappointing. There were loads of apartments with enclosed gardens so not sure why we weren't in one of those. If you could get hold of someone then maybe you could find out the answer to that. By the time we got checked in and spent ages looking for the restaurant it was getting late. The kids hadn't eaten so we walked in to the town but every thing was closing and it was only 9.15pm. There was no shop on site to buy food so we had to drive 20 minutes to McDonald's to get some food. Not ideal and not what we wanted in such a romantic, idyllic setting. The area itself was really nice. Restaurants overpriced like in most of France but the setting was fantastic. The lake was great and the kids swam in there. Not a great deal to do to be honest and very basic facilities at the actual site. All of the positives and things to do were actually outside the site. Would definitely go back to that area but would stay somewhere else. Could have been so much better and fairly easily improved. Wouldn't go back as the severe lack of customer service would worry me if there were major problems.

Chateau Capitoul

Outstanding Hotel

Reviewed By PDubya

Chateau Capitoul is possibly the finest hotel we have stayed at. The room was fantastic, well-appointed with modern comforts like a Bose Bluetooth unit, but decorated in an elegant style befitting this beautifully restored Chateau which is steeped in history and has its own wine Domain. All the essentials were in place: the bed was very comfortable, great shower pressure and plenty of space. We ate at the Adaso restaurant in the hotel where wonderful food is cooked over charcoal. Dinner was of an exceptionally high standard, served in a room with lovely decor and magnificent views of rolling vineyards of the region. Breakfast was also great with fresh fruit and outstanding pastries. The Spa area is comprehensive with massage rooms, a pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna. The staff were welcoming, professional and informative but relaxed and friendly. This visit really was an exceptional life experience - HIGHLY recommended.

Wedding September 2021

Reviewed By S5681JYjessicap

My now husband and I first visited the Chateau in 2018 on a trip to France, after shortlisting it as a potential venue for our wedding. When we arrived it was everything we wanted! Rustic and relaxed with fabulous food! However after reading reviews we were concerned and so revisited the Chateau to discuss with the owners. This was the best thing we could've done. By explaining to the owners our reluctance to pay a deposit due to some poor reviews, they had the opportunity to attempt to put our mind at rest and also put contingencies in place to improve future online reviews. The best thing the business has done, is place Lily and Luke at the head of the wedding planning and customer communication. This in itself has significantly improved the customer experience and resolved many issues in older reviews. Moving onto our wedding week - it was OUTSTANDING! The Chateau is stunning, food is amazing and just as importantly the staff are incredible! Everyone mentions Stephanie in their reviews - she is exceptional and goes above and beyond to make everyone feel at home and meet as many requests as possible - she is an absolute asset to the Chateau. Sasha did a wonderful job with the flowers and decorations. All of our guests were blown away with the venue, the wedding and the week they had in Ginestas. The wine tasting event was a particular highlight for them! I understand reviews can be influential, but please, if you're dealing directly with Lily and Luke - don't hesitate to use the Chateau. We now have the perfect wedding memories to last us a lifetime!

Simple very fresh food. The hosts are very helpful. They found me an extra pillow for the night as I like two. Highly recommended.

5 day beach holiday

Reviewed By Audrie107

perfect location for beautiful beach. easy walk from apartment. apartment complex very clean and nicely laid out. great to have parking space. Although we thought the kitchen in the apartment was very basic, it was okay for the 5 day stay. However, It would be frustrating for a longer stay, as there is no cooker, kettle, iron, hairdryer and only the tiny cups for coffee. after the first few days we noticed a bad egg smell which built up when the windows and doors closed. we reported to the office and some maintenance men came to check in the toilet and kitchen, and put some chemicals in the drains. but tduring our last night the smell was so bad we all had headaches. we moved the sofa mattress from the central area into the bedroom and slept with the door closed, which made it extremely hot over night. when I reported this to the office in the morning we were told that bad smells happen in France with the drain system. when the manager came to check the apartment with me, she pulled the fridge out and said the rotten water in the drip tray is what had caused the bad smell. i was disappointed not to receive an apology, but that could be because of my lack of French.

Simply amazing

We had booked our last two nights here before flying home out of Toulouse after a wonderful month-long trip to southern France. When we arrived at this gorgeous B&B, we were met by the owner, Jeremy, and shown to our spacious and comfortable room upstairs; the views over the front and back gardens were lovely. Jeremy invited us down for a lovely glass of regional wine and cheese in the living area and a nice chat. His English was perfect. When we got back to our room, we checked email and learned to our dismay that our flight back to the US two days later was cancelled. This was at the beginning of the shut-downs worldwide caused by the corona virus. We of course panicked, but Jeremy came to the rescue and found us flights on another airline on our same days of travel and also secured us a refund from our original airline. This was certainly above and beyond what anyone would expect from a host. All we can say is we got home okay and are forever grateful to Jeremy for what he did for us. He is a very caring person, and the B&B is wonderful. If you are ever in this scenic and historic part of France, please consider staying here.

Chateau Canet

Château Canet is a traditional and family run wine estate, recognized as one of the leading "domaines" of Minervois, Languedoc-Roussillon. Among the vines and olive plantations you will find a cluster of nine independent cottages all converted from original buildings and the Château itself. Within the grounds you will find plenty to keep the whole family occupied including a swimming pool, tennis court and children’s play room. While on holiday here you can explore the vineyards, hike through miles of private countryside following herb-scented trails or use one of the estate's bikes and venture further afield, along the peaceful country roads surrounding the estate.

Thank you so much for an amazing time. We went with a group of 30 people and had the whole chateau to ourselves and it was an amazing experience.

Gites Sous les Courtines

In Languedoc, at the heart of Occitanie, the Cité of Carcassonne (Aude) and the Canal du Midi, both sites classified as world heritage by the UNESCO. Our two gites (4 stars quality), wich open out onto a big garden just under the curtains of the Medieval city, benefiting from an incredible panoramic view of the castle of Carcassonne. The "Grand Canissou" gite is a spacious holiday cottage with an old-world charm. "Mipadre" is a modern loft. Both are opened into a terrace in front of the incredible landscape of the walls of the medieval city. From the two gites you can discoverd the cathars castles, the abbeys, and vineyards, and enjoy our local gastronomy. On spot, in Carcassonne, you stay near by the Aude river, close to the city center and nearest from the golf and the lake.

A must

It is indeed very convenient for the old city and the gite we had (Mi padre ) ha a nice small terrace with access to a fair sized garden with loungers and seclusion. We were very happy with the cleanliness, comfy beds and decent equipment. The owner was very friendly, provided a map and pointed out " must sees" etc. Limited shopping in the immediate area (but includes a very nice patisserie) but there is a Carrefour City about 20 minutes walk away in the old town.If we go back to Carcassonne (which we might ) this is where we will stay.
