Cold Feet

Reviewed By candlewood_newton

Most South Carolinians don’t venture into the Northern Angle in January. Despite buying snow boots rated at -40C, I lost feeling in my toes while still in the truck on the way to eat at the resort. I was really thinking about skipping out on ice fishing later in the day because my feet were so cold. We had a good meal at Flag Island Resort, but what really saved me was their small general store. They had toe warmers. They are really similar to hand warmers but go inside your boots. Needless to say, I bought all of the toe warmers they had. It was hard to get my boots back on with the warmers, but it felt great once they were on. This made the ice fishing possible, and I still have all 10 toes thanks to Flag Island Resort.

Young's Bay Resort

Excellent winter get away

Reviewed By 158kylee

Spent a long weekend here with a group of guys. Cabins were as clean and comfortable as they can get. We had one cold windy night and from inside the cabin we could not tell what the weather was doing outside. Cabin was equipped nicely with Sat TV and all the essentials in the kitchen. Really nice large screened in porch that would have been really enjoyable had this been a summer trip. Did ice fishing with Red Fox through the resort which was excellent service too. Picked up in the parking lot next door and treated great. If looking for a place to spend with family or friends and get away from things Youngs Bay will serve you nicely.

Jake's Northwest Angle

Great time

Reviewed By 20kathyr

Thanks to Karen, Paul, and Mike for a great stay. This is our first time staying here and the cabin was wonderful, very clean, well stocked, and very comfortable. We loved the line dry sheets that smelt so fresh. Ohhhh and the wonderful fresh baked bread that Karen baked herself....that our kids devoured. The last time my husband had been at the NWA was 22 years ago, we will not be waiting that long again. Fishing was great!! Thanks for the hospitality at Jakes!!

Angle Outpost Resort

Clean, comfortable, quiet and friendly

Reviewed By Mark H

I have to say upfront, my friend and I weren’t their typical client. We needed a place to stay just one night because we wanted our photo with the Northwest Angle marker that is similar to the one in a Key West, Florida. Everyone else comes here and stays for days catching large walleyes that can’t be found as plentiful on other lakes in Minnesota and Wisconsin. In fact, I would like to come back here and do just that and I live on a lake. The owner was super friendly. We had a two bedroom cottage. Each bedroom had three comfortable single beds that were a little short for me, but not s big deal. The kitchen was small but functional if we had chosen to use it. There is a gas fireplace with a TV with satellite reception above it. We had no service with ATT cell phones, but they have WiFi available that reaches the cabins. Our elevated porch overlooked the lake. They also sell gas and my friend who has a smaller fuel tank on his motorcycle needed that. I hope I can find the time to come back.

Walsh'e Bay Store Camp

Reviewed By eberspacher

This is a fishing resort out on Oak Island on the MN side of the border. You have to put your boat in at Young;s Bay and park your vehicle & boat trailer there for the time you are out on Oak Island. You check in & out of the US via a kiosk at Young's Bay. You need a valid passport and information on all parties in your group such as DOB, where born, make, model, year, and license number of your vehicle. Walsh's is a husband/wife run resort. It's low key and Frank has a very dry sense of humor--fun guy. Laura is very nice and handles all the paperwork. Cabins are well kept and the kitchen is very well stocked with all the necessaries for cooking, Price is right also. Fishing is very tough out there or anywhere on that lake when the wind blows so be prepared to fight white caps to get to places to hide and fish out of the wind. There is no meal service so bring all your goodies for the length of your stay. They have an ice machine for the fish and have bait for sale as well. Check before going as to what they have.Fish cleaning place is clean and doesn't smell.
