Pleasant night in the Swiss Alps on the way to Italy...

Reviewed By knotheadusc

My husband and I recently visited Italy. We live in Germany, so we decided to stop in Switzerland to break up the trip to where we were headed in Italy. Andermatt happens to be roughly the midpoint between where we live, and where we were going. I didn't realize, when I was planning, that getting to this ski village would require a steep drive up a curvy Alpine road! Nevertheless, we enjoyed our stay at the new Radisson Blu Hotel. Our room had everything we needed, and we enjoyed the bar and the hotel's restaurant, Spun. There's a huge parking garage under the hotel, which is very convenient. I was impressed by the staff; all of whom we encountered spoke perfect English and were very professional and friendly. Overall, it's a pleasant hotel and not outrageously expensive, at least as Swiss hotels go, anyway. We even got a little bit of snow!

Beautiful hotel, restaurant was disappointing.

Reviewed By mmayhemm

The hotel architecture and decor, which includes everything (the lobby, the bar, the restaurant, the cigar lounge and last but not least the room) might be the most beautiful of any hotel that I've ever been. The Spa is nice, but not beyond meeting expectations. Dinner at the restaurant was utterly disappointing. Prices are top notch, the food is sub par. Employees at the reception seemed to be happy, restaurant staff did not. I would definitely recommend staying therey don't know what to recommend for dinner though.

New management of this very good family hotel

Reviewed By TN-D1974

This hotel came under new management around a year ago, and lots of (good) changes since then it seems. Generally refreshed & redecorated. We stayed in the family apartment on the top floor. Big and spacious, with kitchen. Has not been redecorated, unlike much of the rest of the hotel, and decidedly dated. But immaculately clean. Restaurant was excellent, with new chef compared to reviews pre-new owner. Recommend booking though, it’s gets very full. Lovely sunny terrace for post-skiing beer. Very popular. This is a family hotel: small & friendly. Owner very present and friendly. Good location in centre of village. 5-10 minute walk to lifts, or a (busy) circular bus stops directly outside. Would definitely return if we came back to Andermatt.

Lovely Family Run Hotel

Reviewed By stephen V

We booked a family room and they upgraded us to a 3 bed apartment. Staff are most welcoming and very friendly in this traditional family run hotel. The hotel and rooms are pristine clean. It is positioned walking distance to 2 chair lifts for the slopes and the town is quiet and very pictureque, especially in the evenings. Rooms are a little basic and dated but warm and adequate for a short visit and skiing trip. We would return and recomend a stay at this hotel.

Thankyou, to an amazing hotel and amazing staff. What a gem!

So we were travelling from Zermatt to Flims on a ski tour and the satnav ran us into a wall of ice on the oberalp pass. With nowhere to go at about 10pm I staggered into the beautiful bar and asked "Is that hotel attached to this bar?" It was, and the staff did everything they could to accommodate us. Great rooms, such a welcome relief. I cannot recommend this place highly enough, I loved it. Also Andermatt is an absolute gem of a ski resort, we were not planning to ski there, but a happy accident forced us into it and we loved every minute.

Baren Restaurant&Rooms

Lovely rooms, let down by the Service

Reviewed By Bizzybee2014

This Hotel / Restaurant is in a great location and the room we had seemed newly renovated and was lovely, cozy and very clean. Unfortunately, our room was quite noisy late at night, especially after closure of the restaurant, when they were tidying up. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and the food was delicious. The breakfast is standard. Unfortunately, the service lets this establishment down a little. Whilst everyone was friendly, there is no reception as such and no information given on the hotel. There is no ski room as such, but nobody told us, that skis can be put in a laundry room. The parking space is a short walk away but there was heavy snowfall when we were there and it was not snow cleared. By the time we left, it was an ice rink! The safe in our room did not work. When I asked a member of staff I was told they would not be replaced until the summer and I had to figure out myself what to do with my valuables. To summarise, had we made to feel more welcome and been looked after better, I would have easily given this a 5Star review.

Good sized rooms, with blinds to help cut street noise out. Excellent meal in restaurant, with one server doing so well for a group and cost 39 SFr for three courses (a bargain in Switzerland). Friendly staff at check in and exit - with a smile (not always found in country).

We initially thought we were getting into a this restaurant for a classic Swiss roesti meal ... but it ended up even far better ? with a warm welcome from the new hosts of the Gasthaus Tell Charleen and Sandro Stadler. Fantastic hosts and amazing food - forget the roesti and get your taste buds acquainted to an amazing Bobotie (South African classic dish at it’s best?) or a fabulous and tasty Pork Belly. Ferienhaus Im Olta Stall

Might be loud

Reviewed By Shimnik

If you are looking for a cheap option to stay in Andermatt, book a room in Ölta Stall. The hostel is located a bit inside the city but you can notice a couple of signs, if you go from the railway station towards the city center. The hostel offers a few rooms with different occupancy (it can be for one or for a few people). It has a common kitchen, where you can cook something, if you wish (but do not forget to clean the dishes, because there is no dish washer). It is asked to leave your shoes on the ground floor, since many people hike in the mountains and might bring dirt on the soles. Do not forget to bring a towel with you! Or you can borrow one for 3 francs. You would be greeted by a lady, who explains you everything in 5 minutes. If you prefer quiet places, this hostel is not for you. It is pretty loud in the evening and in the morning. You might not fall asleep, if you are sensitive to sounds. An alternative solution is to bring your earplugs. The hostel does not offer any food, so keep it in mind. Instant coffee is for free but the one in the capsules costs 1€ or 1 franc. When you leave the hostel, do not forget to leave the keys in a box close to the entrance.
