Amarillo is the perfect place to get a big taste of Texas even if you only have a small amount of time. From canyons to old Cadillacs and gigantic steaks to grand scenery, the city is an Old West enthusiast's dream. One of the country's best collections of Western art and artifacts can be found at the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum. Mosey on over to the Amarillo Livestock Auction to mingle with real cowboys as they go about the business of buying and selling cattle. For those with interests that are more modern, the city boasts a great art museum and beautiful botanical gardens. If you're traveling with kids, don't miss the thrilling rides at Wonderland Park. The whole family will be in awe of the fantastic rock formations at Palo Duro Canyon State Park.

Nice hotel, great staff

Reviewed By EEpotter

Nothing really surprising about the rooms or hotel in general; it's a nice new Holiday Inn Express and the rooms, breakfast, and so on are pretty much what you'd expect. There was a malfunction with the electronic lock in my room on my first night and the person at the front desk was very helpful and accommodating. Glitches happen and I was really happy with how responsive everyone was.

A lot to be desired….

We got here in the evening and the young lady at the front desk was helpful and friendly, but that’s about the best part of this review. The rest goes downhill from there. The room was standard, and the mini fridge didn’t have a freezer compartment to it, and most mini fridges do. When we went to breakfast, here’s what was available: wrapped small danishes that were not very tasty, muffins, very small selection of yogurt, scrambled “egg beater” eggs, kinda runny, breakfast potatoes, buttermilk biscuits, gravy, boiled eggs, sausages. When I asked if they had Real butter rather than the Soybean oil/margarine stuff they had, I was told No, they didn’t offer that. They also had the standard coffee, juices, etc. The absolute WORST part of this whole stay was our checkout in the morning. When I came downstairs to check out, a guy named Marquise was on the phone, (and one else at the front desk but him) so I patiently waited, thinking that he would finish promptly or at least an acknowledgement of “I’ll be right with you” but No, he didn’t look up at me at all, and proceeded to chat with whomever it was until I had Lost my patience and went to look for someone else to help me. Meanwhile there was another woman who had come and was also waiting for this guy to get off the phone. I told her, “Good luck with that, this guy has been on the phone for the last 10 minutes and ignoring anyone who comes in front of him.” I DID find a young lady named Maddie, and asked her to come help me check out and give a receipt, and told her the guy there isn’t helping anyone at all! Good thing she did, because she ended up taking care of myself and others while he STAYED on the phone CHATTING away… It took a good 15 minutes of our valuable time to get out of there and we were NOT happy with the service! They could do better with having someone at the front desk that actually CARES about people and promptly get them on their way, rather than IGNORE them! Especially when it’s busy in the morning! Our stay was not a pleasant one to say the least.

This place is amazing!! We only stayed the night passing through but, after an 8 hour drive the room was incredibly comfortable. The shower, just WOW, the best water pressure a girl could ask for! The couch was by far the best couch in any hotel I've stayed in. And that bed was just amazing! And now the staff, after reading other reviews on how great the staff is, I now know it's true. Just the most friendly and accommodating staff. I wish I could remember the lady's name who helped us but, I still love you! I can't wait for our stay again when we pass back through. Thank you for being a top knotch hotel!

No Elevator

Reviewed By 236kathyk

I was shocked after checking in when we were looking for the elevator & were told there was none. We were traveling through & had to carry a car load of luggage upstairs after driving all day. I looked on the website & could not find a place where no elevator was listed. We did see a maintenance room which appeared to be the size of an elevator entry so perhaps it broke & they had it removed.

Clean hotel, ok location

Reviewed By bf7kdjwdqu

The hotel was clean and comfortable. For the premium price you would pay, it's a little expensive for what you get. Hotel staff is ok, no one man's the desk very often. Our neighbor decided to knock on the combined door very late at night and dogs barked all night inside the rooms. No breakfast so it's expensive for an ok experience
