Alice's Secret Travellers Inn

Welcome to Alice's Secret Travellers Inn; a quiet green little oasis not far off the centre of Alice Springs. Being the smallest, we pride ourselves on our cleanliness and friendliness, and we are happy to give you that extra bit of attention you will miss in the bigger places. We offer air-conditioned accommodation in funky themed private and dormitory rooms. All include bed linen and access to shared bathroom facilities. This hostel is the perfect spot to get ready for your outback adventure (ask for specials) or to relax and recover after it. The beautiful, lovingly decorated garden is featured by an outdoor swimming pool, the fully equipped kitchen and free BBQ facilities give you the opportunity to cook and sit with fellow guests and the shared TV lounge and the book city are two comfy hideaways to chill, even on a rainy day. We love to keep it interesting! That’s why we’re always working on little projects to maintain and improve our little ‘home away from home’ for our guests!

Good service, cute accommodation

Reviewed By ejm84

I'll start by saying that our hostel/backpacker days are well and truly behind us, and we booked here because it was the only accommodation available in Alice Springs for the night we needed somewhere to stay. At the risk of sounding like a snob, the mere mention of "shared bathroom" makes my skin crawl, but the bathroom here (the womens, anyway) was actually pretty good. That said, there is one female toilet and two showers for the entire facility which is nowhere near enough - we were lucky to be staying on a night where the place probably wasn't even half full (the lovely lady who checked us in even said they were quiet that night), because even with so few people staying I had to wait for the toilet every single time I went to use it, as well as the shower on the morning of departure. I hate to think what it would be like if the place was busier or full! Parking was no hassle, however this is also purely because so few people were staying there. It's basically a first in, best dressed policy for parking - strictly subject to availability and there is only enough space for maybe 10 cars and even that is depending on how big the other vehicles are. Given that the crime rate in Alice Springs is off the charts, I would've been furious if I'd had to park on the street. As it is, you have to leave a slip on your dashboard with your phone number on it in case someone needs to ring you at any hour of the day/night so you can move your car for them. Was not a fan of this at all; luckily it wasn't an issue the night we stayed and the fact that we were able to park securely earns an extra star for the review (even the expensive hotels like DoubleTree don't offer secure parking). We stayed in the little Seb's Alpine Hut, a tiny Swiss-themed wooden hut with a double bed, lamp and table and nothing more. It was clean, cute and cosy and adequate for a one-night stay. The mattress on the bed definitely needs replacing and I didn't get much sleep despite the whole place being peaceful and quiet. The grounds were very pretty which was a plus given the walk to the bathroom from the hut in the middle of the cold, wet night! Service was excellent, definitely no complaints in that respect.

a perfect clamping to take a moment to relax

Spur of the moment booking when we decided to not to travel straight from Uluru to Alice Springs. Glamping on the escarpment was spectacular. The accomodation, food and staff meet and exceeded our expectations. If you want to just relax, get off you phone and sit back enjoying this beautiful land without the crowds this is the place. Food provided was exceptional as was the range of wines and other drinks. on arrival a Full Cheese board is ready to nibble on, the food for the evening meals were high quality. just leave a message when booking if you require a special diet, cooking was easy and facilities top notch. Breakfast supplies could have feed us all day, but all fresh food was provided for the second day. Staff are friendly and always willing to assist. When you read the reviews you need to seperate the different camp sites as they all end up bunched together. The Escarpment Glamping is the one i am reviewing and is 5 stars, i did not use the other facilities so can't comment.

Room was ok for the price although I noticed mould in the shower tray, limescale in the shower head and the air con didn't work. To get to the lift from Reception is a walk of around 75 m which is poorly lit. I hit my head on stairs coming out of Reception to the extent I knocked myself out momentarily. I asked for a copy of the accident report or operations log entry detailing my accident and this request was refused. They accused me of wanting to sue them as well as being told that this had never happened before. Before I left the following day, I repeated my request and was given the mobile number of the GM and email address so I could follow up my request. I was told I would receive a call from the GM. To date (six days after the event) I have still not received either a call or an email from the GM regarding this matter. I have called and emailed again receiving no reply. My concern is that they show a complete lack of concern for the wellbeing of their guests by not ensuring that all risks to guests are are reduced to as low as is reasonably expected. It is interesting to not that when I pointed out that the void under the stairs where I hit my head should be blocked off to reduce the risk, within two hours red and white tape was put up to warn guests of the hazard.

Stayed 1 night, upstairs, king size bed was so comfortable, shower in bath, no where to put soap or shampoo. Room layout was wrong. As for a dip in the pool, I had to clean the bugs & leaves out first, then try and climb the metal steps to get into the pool, upon, getting out, I slipped and hit my shin on the bottom metal step. Pool is OUTDATED

Inexpensive family type motel

Reviewed By BethDid

Only stayed one night as we were on our way to Uluru. The pictures on the booking site depict a decent size unit, with a kitchenette, and a large pool area. The unit is small, the kitchenette difficult to use, as the layout was strange, and the pool was at the front of the “resort”, and mainly suited to a few children. There is no onsite dinning and the closest restaurants need bookings to eat at, not mentioned at check in.

Clean friendly and close place to stay

Reviewed By borgasc

The amenities in this place are very clean and accessable. The rooms are comfortable we had a group large enough to just have us in the room, but the rooms have lockers available and little fridges. We were always able to use amenities without having to wait and at night we slept well. People would talk but everyone was respectful of the time. We had a car and it was easy to get in and out occasionally having to talk with others to sort out car movement always seemed to work out. The after hours policy for checking worked well and we called and the lady was very happy and professional to help out. Payment was easy. I would definitely stay again and highly recommend. We always felt we and our things was safe as well.
