Visited here on a sunny day whist heading north..what a lovely part of Denmark..the tower gives you excellent views over the area..there is a play area for children and if you walk down from the tower to the lake you can catch the steamboat to other parts of the lake.

Vil du opleve dyrelivet tæt på og glide stille gennem vandet i et utroligt smukt landskab, så skulle du tage en tur med solbådene. Bådene kan lejer via nettet og du stiger på i Ry og kan sejle hele vejen til Silkeborg. Du kan også bade undervejs eller ligge til kaj ved f.eks Himmelbjerget.

This museum tells about the life of a Cistercian monastery for the period 1172-1560. Left today is a ruin as the monastery around 1560 have been demolished, as the bricks were used to build Skanderborghus.
The site contains the history of this monastery as well as some general information about other Cistercian monasteries in Denmark. There is a significant skeletal collection from the Middle Ages. Also, a herb garden for those who might find that interesting.
The place is mainly for adults (or history oriented children) and can be combined by a walk in the beautiful nature, as this is close to Mossø. On certain days (mainly during the summer) there is activities here is as well (check the web page http://www.skanderborgmuseum.dk/Forside-174.aspx).
Note: closed on Mondays as most museums in Denmark.

In the small, but cozy hamlet of Alling close to Ry resides one of the smallest (2nd smallest?) churches in Denmark. The interior is neither big nor spectacular, but is has tranquility and ambience in abundance. A great place for private meditation. Don't miss a walk around the graveyard along the stone wall. It offers lovely views over the landscape with it's rolling hills and winding roads and across to the next village, Laven. A one kilometer walk from the church - straight west, will take you to one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the area, but that's a different story.

Vengedalens turridninger is mainly for the adult audience. Vengedalen is not a riding school, but a ride place. -Within We ride out, we start to collect the horses in the field, weeder, cleans hooves and saddle up. So we draw the horses above the fold and rise up when we are in the woods, says Lillijan. There is a 2.5-hour tours (with inlaid coffee break in the forest) and 1.5 hour tours.

Når man besøger Himmelbjerget tager man først op og ser udsigten fra Tårnet, fantastisk udsigt over Julsø, dernæst besøger man legepladsen, hvis man har børnebørn med, og sidst men ikke mindst ¨kigger man på alle de mindesten, der er placeret på stedet til minde om datidens kendte mænd f.eks Steen Steensen Blicher og Vilhelm Beck. I 1853 oprettede sidstnævntet foreningen for Indre Mission, der i 1869 brød med grundtvigianerne---

Mit første ubetinget negative bidrag - så er det sagt. Det er vanskeligt at se nogen dybere mening med dette for almindelige mennesker. Om nogen med dybere indsigt i kunstens Verden, har glæde af det skal være usagt. Vi var på familieudflugt til stedet, og forlod det i skuffet flok.
