We went here on a hot and windy day with two small kids, 4&7. You can go up river from the beach which gives you safer waters, but when the water is leaving there is a strong current - for the kids. The waves are great for body boarding with the small ones as they come in very long.

Best sunset ever seen! Very nice beach with one part with a river where children can play and on the other side the sea, with nice waves and the best sunset I ever saw!

The beach has nice white sand and good waves. The bluffs above have amazing views - see my photos.
For parking there are a bunch of lots above the beach and a shuttle golf cart - very little parking is available below the bluff & I'd recommend not trying there.

Monte Clerigo beach

You can choose the type of day you wish at Monte Clerigo beach. Go there to surf if that is your thing, to sunbathe on a wide beach , to eat/drink at the three restaurants situated at the entrance to the beach or a combination of these things. Never over busy or noisy it is good for families, couples or groups and a place we have used many times over the years.

Pontal da Carrapateira

If you're looking for a beach that's reminiscent of the Great Ocean Road in southern Victoria, this would be it. With devastating high cliffs to the west and golden sandy Beaches to the east, and a quiet tributary merrily burbling its way to the waterline, this is as close as I've seen to what's typically thought of as an Australian beach - in Europe. There's plenty of parking, a boardwalk down to the cliffs and onto the beach, pack some snacks and a beach blanket, you won't want to leave!

Castle of Aljezur

The remains of the Moorish 10th century castle can be seen high on the hill over the old town and the views from there are fantastic. I do not think this has been reviewed on trip advisor but I would suggest you let me do one

Located above ancient Aljezur, the caste provides a great view in the city and the valley. Great for sunset too.

Very good wide, arching beach with some good rocky shore features and rock pools that are safe to access, depending on tide conditions. The water was rough and few surfers were here, but all in all a good safe beach which is clean.

I found this museum while walking down from the castle, the lady I met in the morning was very warm and welcoming. The museum is definately worth a visit, small but a lovely glimpse into a simple life in the 20th Century and the ability to view pottery and paintings left behind.

At the end of a single track is this wonderfully isolated beach. Absolutely no facilities but alsolute bliss if you are looking for a total escape with only the Atlantic for company.
