Brimming with historical attractions, boutique shops, antebellum mansions, restaurants, art galleries and antique shops, historic Georgetown offers a delightful escape from daily modern life. The oak-lined avenues of Georgetown, dubbed “little Charleston”, are alive with history and small town commerce. If you’ve ever wanted to see antebellum mansions, Georgetown is the place for you. There are an amazing 50-plus antebellum mansions in the area. One of the best ways to see Georgetown is by boat. Take a tour in and around Winyah Bay and the surrounding rivers and you’ll pass plantation mansions and long-abandoned rice fields. Two of the most visited plantations are Hopsewee Plantation and the Hampton Plantation State Historic Site. High on your list of local don’t miss attractions should be the Kaminski House Museum, the stately former home of a Confederate sea captain, and The Rice Museum, which details the history of this important crop through dioramas, maps, artifacts and other exhibits. Other popular activities in the Georgetown area include golf, sailing charters, eco-tours, shell collecting, deep-sea fishing and beach activities at nearby beaches. If you want to tee up, try Wedgefield Plantation Golf Club and Heritage Club, which are less than 10 minutes from Georgetown. Once you’ve geared down and de-stressed in slower paced Georgetown, you’ll have easy access to two dynamic destinations, Myrtle Beach, 36 miles away, and Charleston, 60 miles away. Myrtle Beach, known as America’s Great Golf Vacation Destination, offers more than 100 golf courses, 1,600 restaurants, shopping complexes, amusement parks and live entertainment theaters. Charleston, which is loaded with museums, Civil War sites and plantation homes and gardens, also has superb golf offerings highlighted by the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Resort.

Best Hotel in Georgetown

I booked a reservation at this hotel for my husband who was visiting his mother for her 70th birthday because I wanted him to stay in a peaceful, clean hotel. He used to stay at the Baymont Inn but I wasn't comfortable having him stay there since it has gone downhill and doesn't feel safe anymore. He loved the Hampton Inn! It was worth the extra money to upgrade to a corner, Deluxe room. It was large and sunny and had a nice marina view. Even though it was a weekend, the room was quiet. He didn't experience any noise from other rooms. The Hampton Inn is definitely the best hotel in the Georgetown area.

Don’t Stay

This is the first negative review I have ever written. This place is horrible. The hotel does look dated but we always keep an open mind so I checked in. We made it about 30 minutes before we could no longer take anymore. The parking lot has a sign that says the hotel is not responsible for any damages which I assume was related to the people “roaming” the parking lot. The pool is nasty- green and black stuff floating all around it. When we got to our room we noticed it had at least 5 layers of dirt on the windows. We reserved a room with “a view of the bay” which doesn’t even exist. The only view is another hotel and pavement. We went back to the lobby to explain our concerns and basically told there was no need for our concerns. Needless to say we checked out and left.

Rough, last resort place to stay!

I was pretty disappointed when I pulled up. Vending machine broken. Trash in between the buildings right by the ice maker. Checked in. Opened the door to my room and uhg! Did not smell clean. The pillow cases were different colors, dingy and had holes in them. I had to go to the office to get parts for the coffee maker. No one cleaned my room the entire week. Pretty disappointed.

Interesting lodgings in a pretty town

This is a slightly eccentric place that was decorated for Easter when we were there with peeps and Easter bunnies. It also has free home brewed beer on tap that was excellent. There are three bedrooms and two shared bathrooms/showers. That worked well for us since not more than one of the bathrooms was in use by other guests at any given time. Our room and the two bathrooms were immaculate when we arrived. There are a coffee machine and things like pop tarts and mini-muffins on the second floor but no full breakfast on-site. The inn is one block from the main drag where a number of restaurants are located and the waterfront is another half block farther. Easy parking on the street. We never actually met the owner/manager but he was always available by phone or text and check-in and check-out were smooth. Georgetown was a pleasant surprise -- a very attractive town with many well preserved houses and good ol' South Carolina friendliness. Would definitely stay here again.

did the job for the price.

This is a small, old and a little tired motel in a pretty good location for a very good price. I came to the area for kayaking and photography in the many nature preserves, marshes and swamps in the area. I wanted a place to lay my head down that was cheap, clean and safe. This motel filled the bill. It's also within a short walk of the Georgetown waterfront with its nice restaurants. The woman at the front desk was very accommodating and friendly. I was only able to reserve a smoking room online but when I arrived she found me a non-smoking room. If I was going to spend a few days at the beach I would most likely spend the small fortune and stay somewhere else, but for someone who needs a place to sleep between outdoor activities, this place was just fine. My only suggestions are to update the furniture and bathroom tiles.
