7 Top-Rated Resorts in Louisiana

April 18, 2023 Hector Krause

Louisiana tourism is centered on New Orleans and the North Shore region in the southeastern corner of the state near the Florida border. West of New Orleans is the Great River Road, with the I-10 running to the Mississippi River port capital city of Baton Rogue. West of New Orleans along the Gulf of Mexico, the I-10 cuts through Lafayette and Lake Charles on its way past Abbeville to Texas. Central Louisiana is Lake Country, and home to cities like Alexandria and Natchitoches. In northern Louisiana, the I-20 runs west from Monroe to Bossier City, Shreveport, and East Texas. Unless Louisiana is very familiar and frequent territory, New Orleans will be the top choice for a Louisiana vacation. Though Mardi Gras, music, and the winning ways of the New Orleans Saints football team get the spotlight, there is much more to explore in New Orleans. Within New Orleans choose among Bourbon Street, Royal Street, the Upper and Lower French Quarters, the Warehouse and Central Business District, the Garden District and Uptown, and Mid-City. With street car lines linking the French Quarter to the Garden District, Convention Center, and everywhere else, it is easy for the whole family to get around. If long walks are your exercise, explore the scenic city on foot. An easy two-hour drive from New Orleans brings you to Baton Rogue, Natchitoches and Lake Country. Explore old Beauregard Town in downtown Baton Rogue, the historic homes of the Baton Rogue Garden District, and tour one or several working plantations. Walk the 33-block Historic Landmark District and tour the historic homes and churches of Natchitoches. Relive Spanish Empire history in Louisiana at Fort St. Jean Baptiste State Historic Site. Heading west from New Orleans is Cajun Country and Lafayette with its mix of French, French Canadian (Acadian), Spanish, and Caribbean cultures. Besides Cajun and Creole cookery, explore the Civil War heritage at the Lafayette Museum. Stop by Abbeville to view the courthouse designed by Hayes Town, St. Mary Magdalen Church, and have a seafood meal. With 75 annual festivals Lake Charles is Louisiana's Festival City, and home to the Creole Nature Trail Scenic Byway. Shreveport and Bossier City in northwest Louisiana are casino and entertainment centers. Shreveport is renowned for hosting the Louisiana State Fair in the fall. Plus floral centers, art galleries, and museums. Monroe in the northeast also has notable gardens.

Hard to win on slots

I've never won big on slots but I've seen others do quite well. I really like the self serve beverage area on the dollar side and wish there was one on the penny side. The bathrooms are cleaner on the dollar side.

Close to the action

This could not be in a more perfect location, if you want to party. The rooms are comfortable and well sized. Bathrooms are well equipped and typical hotel restrooms. The location could not be beat…unless you like sleeping. Definitely request a room facing the pool or courtyard, NOT the street. It will be LOUD 24/7! During our stay the elevator was out of service and the front deck girl couldn’t careless, she was on her phone and just kept saying, “someone was called”. The front doors lock after a certain time of night. Security will let you in. This we appreciated as not just anyone off the street could wander in. The pool courtyard is small but relaxing. Not a ton of sunlight but nice to cool down and relax. The pool isn’t large at all and totally covered by large trees but is nice to dip in then sit in a chair. Overall, this hotel is nice. The location is close to most everything but will definitely request a quieter space if we were to stay again.

Fun place to be!

My family and I came on a business conference for teachers. The hotel made us feel super comfortable and it is seriously a really nice place. Polite staff and never had an issue from the casino to the restaurants to the pool. I’d vouch for 6 stars if I could!

Charming with a fantastic location

Reviewed By FormerBuckeye

It doesn’t have all the conveniences of a chain hotel, but it has way more charm. This is an old 19th century building with high ceilings and beautiful woodwork. It’s clean and the furniture is comfortable. Our room had a nice balcony that was great for people watching. There’s a beautiful courtyard with a pool. And the location is fantastic! That said, the spiral staircase was inconvenient and the street noise was a bit loud. But the good far outweighs the inconvenient. I would not hesitate to stay here

Never Again

Reviewed By CynSieb

We stopped on our way home from Florida to Texas. Thought it would be a nice stop over. We were wrong. We stayed in a tower suite. The rooms was dusty. Not sure if that means no one had stayed there in a while or if the cleaning crew isn't doing their job. Either way it should have been ready for us. Thankfully I had my Clorox wipes with me! Also the mirrors were streaked and the patio doors were so streaked and dirty you could hardly see out of them. The bathroom was nice, however, it was located at the front of the room when you walk in the door and the bedroom was in the back of the room. Weird location. The hallways smelled of natural gas or some kind of gas. We will never stay there again!
