Beautiful chateau and location but serious flaws

Reviewed By 55Chrispy

A beautiful old chateau in a stunning location. The hotel interior and rooms are splendidly authentic. Aside from a tiny bathroom (which I can forgive in the interests of authenticity) our suite was spacious, clean and comfortable with a lovely private terrace overlooking the river. There are pleasant grounds with access to the pool and walks along the river in which you can swim. You can also arrange for kayaks directly from the hotel. But this is a 4 star hotel with prices to match but in some respects it falls woefully short. During our 3 day stay, we saw no evidence of any management. There was no welcome, no introduction to the hotel or its facilities nor any offer to assist with our bags. Whilst not rude or unpleasant, some staff were quite scruffy and it was difficult to identify who worked there. There was engineering work being undertaken at the side of the hotel, but there was no apology for the noise and disruption in such a serene location. Strangely there was no menu displayed anywhere, neither at the hotel entrance to nor the restaurant. We quickly discovered why. The menu was somewhat unusual and not very appetising. Service was slow and we were not even given bread at the table until we asked for it. The food when it arrived was the most disappointing we have eaten in a French hotel of this standard and we have eaten in many 4/5 star hotels across France to be able to compare. The next morning we cancelled our table for the remainder of our stay.

A perfect place to enjoy the town

We stayed a night in the Hotel Burlatis in Sainte Enimie. Ste. Enimie is hidden away down in the gorge of the twisting lazy (in summer) Tarn river and if you have serious qualms about driving on twisting, rather to very narrow roads with steep drops on one side, it may not be for youYou enter the village, one of the plus beaux villages of France, seeing the Tarn and a lot of traffic and people for this is in the summer, basically a beach town for bathing in the river. Parking was full nearly everywhere, so be prepared if necessary to walk steep streets. Hotel Burlatis is perhaps 50 yards from where you can walk down to the river, it is newly renovated, small, very nice but small rooms with tiled bathrooms (ours was number 1 with a large shower), and comfortable beds. This room is on the street and being a tourist destination, there was a lot of traffic fyi. Stairs up to the rooms, no elevator. If you come in summer, plan on going in the water, very refreshing and fun, the water full of kids on rubber rafts, dogs splashing about and folks being summertime lazy. It is very shallow with deep channels in spots but generally safe. The Hotel Burlatis is well recommended for such a stay.

This is a very nice hotel!

We stayed here for two nights in October. We had chosen a room with a terrace on a half board basis. The room was great - very spacious and with a great newly refurbished bathroom.Very clean room. The food was much better than we had expected - very fresh ingredients and well presented. The waiting staff were excellent. One can tell that the owners have very high standards and pay attention to detail. Owner provided very helpful tips for local walking. For a small hotel in a quiet provincial location it is hard to imagine better standards. We loved it and will stay again next year!

Gorgeous spot, great value

What a beautiful location! We stayed for one night when we were on a 3 day kayaking trip. Stunning setting, a little walk to the town but a pleasant one and only takes 5-10 mins or so. The room was spotless, as was the bathroom. Little touches like having a washing line in the bathroom and having a mini-bar were hugely appreciated! The air con was fab, beds really comfy and we had a lovely welcome. Breakfast was one of the best of our ten day holiday and yet it was one of the cheapest stays. Would highly recommend.

We had passed through this beautiful village before and decided to stay overnight on our way further south. It is in an ideal spot to from which to explore the fantastic scenery in the local gorges. We had a wonderful room with a double bed and single bed and lots of space. breakfast was typically French; homemade bread, jams, etc. You will not get better value for money anywhere. Only downside - parking. It's not easy to park close to the property. We were lucky and just happened to get a space about 200 metres away

Joli villages de vacances. Mérite ses 3 étoiles. Maison spacieuse, avec mobilier de qualité. Bon accueil.
