As much as I wanted to give this place more stars...

Reviewed By wg051967

I stayed here out of all the good reviews, but I didn't really have many other options. I don't normally write reviews, but I had to for my experience with this hotel. 4-5 stars for the following: I needed to stay in a place that had a kitchen since I preferred not to eat out every night, so I was happy to find this hotel. The room was large and had a kitchen which contained a full-sized fridge, microwave, stovetop, small sink, and the basic cookware and silverware. There is also a locked cabinet downstairs in the lobby where you can borrow a crockpot, blender, etc. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was a nice size. There is free self-laundry (washers/dryers). A small fitness room containing a treadmill, cable weight system, elliptical, Bose ball, Yoga ball, stationary bike. The hotel is 10-min walk to Walmart if you choose to get some exercise. There is also a gas station nearby and it's just on the edge of town. The town of Craig is fairly small so everything is within a few minutes' drive. Now for reasons for the 3-stars. I arrived at the hotel to check in. Nobody was at the front desk. Waited approx 5 min until a guy finally showed up. Didn't get a welcome greeting whatsoever. Not even a smile. He just stood there waiting for me to speak. I would have expected a "Hello. How can I help you?" I just let that go and blew it off, but this was strike one. Got to my room and thought it was decent until I found that this "COVID cleaning" spiel was not true. The trash wasn't emptied and the silverware was filthy. It looked as though someone had licked the spoon with yogurt and stuck it back into the drawer. Totally disgusting. I went downstairs to inform the front desk of my findings and, once again, didn't get a smile, greeting, or "how can I help you". Just a look. As I relayed my concerns, I basically got a "What do you want us to do? I can't leave the front". This is how the conversation should have went: Front Desk: Hi, how may I help you? Guest: Explains issues Front Desk: Oh, I'm sorry. Let me see what we can do get this resolved for you...blah blah. The issues eventually did get resolved in a timely manner which I will give them credit for, but just the interaction frustrated me. Not to mention my concerns of whether or not the room had been cleaned at all. So that was strike 2. The last one was going to the front desk again to ask about extending my stay. No hello, no smile, nothing. The lady just looked at me like I was standing there for my well-being. After the interaction, I wasn't sure if the process was complete and I actually had to ask if this was all I needed to do and she said yes. So I said thank you, just to be polite. That was strike 3. I get that this is a small town and maybe I'm too used to how other hotels greet their guests. I've had years of experience dealing with a wide range of customers on a daily basis and know what it takes to provide quality customer service. A smile and a proper greeting goes a long way. I mean, really. Is it too difficult to fight gravity to put on a smile? Or to expend a few calories just to say, "Hello, how may I help you?" It's unfortunate that I couldn't give this place more stars, but the three encounters I've had with the front desk with three different individuals forced me to give them the 3 stars.

Overnight visit

I spent the night on Feb 5th 2022.I selected this hotel because I always have a fantastic stay with Hampton Hotels and have stayed in them all over the country. This was a quick trip to see my grandkids.I called before I reserved the room to ask about the pool. The woman who took the call was not very friendly and immediately told me that the pool was open but if I wasn’t staying I could not use the pool.I informed her I was aware that I just wanted to check before I booked my room. She was not very friendly but I figured maybe she was just having a hard day. When I arrived at the hotel the front desk clerk was not friendly .I was not greeted.I informed him that it would be me and my two granddaughters in the room.He told me that my other grandkids that live in the area could not use the pool that it was for guests only.I have never not been allowed to take my grandkids swimming when they were the reason I was in town. When I asked who the manager was he told me he was the manager and that the reason they had lost the Hampton flag was due to lousy management and not holding to Hampton’s standards.I know this to not be true! When we went down in the evening for coffee and cocoa the new front desk clerk stood and watched us but never spoke and never greeted us,It was exactly the same at breakfast no greeting. I have never been treated this way at any Hampton in the past.If this is the new Hampton standard of customer service I’m very sad.All of that being said the rooms were clean ,and so was the hotel.I will not spend my money here again and will choose to stay elsewhere.I have been in customer service for 20 years and can not imagine being treated any worse then I was at this property! I would like to include names but the manager never offered his name and was wearing a coat and the rest of them never got close enough to see their name tags clearly as they stayed at a distance .I also would like to say I have never written a review like this! But felt strongly that this should be addressed .

Reasonable cost vs competitors but....

Reviewed By 524terrilp

Downside: When I called to make a reservation was told $50/night, on arrival turned out cost was $65/night (no explanation given). Owner (or manager?) is really nice guy but accent is so heavy had hard time understanding, and emphasizing I only wanted 2 nights, not 3. Figuring out how to use the Roku vs local cable was a challenge. No courtesy coffee maker in room. One small micro bar of soap, no courtesy shampoo. Upside: Cost was far less then the usual chain hotels in area. Was able to get me a ground floor with king bed, could park truck just outside door for security. Bed was very comfortable, room was very quiet. Directly across highway from hotel is Vallartas restaurant, where the food quality and quantity are excellent (house maragaritas are great). Good microwave and refrigerator in room.

Pet Fee in addition

All of the staff was very nice. We chose this motel because it's pet friendly. We reserved and paid online. There is no mention of an additional pet fee anywhere. But when you arrive you are charged $25 plus tax.
