7 Bed and Breakfast Inns in Taos: Best hotel deals for 2023

April 21, 2023 Nicolette Lion

A rolling mesa at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, Taos has a magical quality. Its rugged beauty, majestic mountains, wild Rio Grande river and unique blend of cultures - Spanish, Native American and Anglo - have historically drawn artists and photographers, evidenced by the plentiful galleries, museums and festivals. To experience the Native American culture here, explore Taos Pueblo, where the Tiwa Native Americans have practiced their traditions for centuries. Finally, the Anglo influence is prevalent in the business district, with its shops, art galleries and some of the finest restaurants in New Mexico. Skiing is also a major draw, but the challenging slopes are geared to the more advanced crowd. There's no rat race here; a fair share of non-mainstreamers have made this laid-back, low-key mecca their home. You, too, may not want to leave its tranquility and natural beauty.

Delightful, personal place to stay

The breakfasts were wonderful, especially liked the Green Chile Souffle. Enjoyed the quiet patio area. It was a very nice walking distance to downtown Taos. I enjoyed the conversations at breakfast with the other people staying there.

Mostly good

There are some fantastic things about this Inn. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are unique, the area is quiet and residential, there is a lot of interesting memorabilia around. The staff member we most interacted with, Lucinda, was so sweet and accommodating. The walk to town is ok. The sidewalk is across a busy street, although you can walk along side of the road. I'd agree with the score of 76, "somewhat walkable". There is a two week cancellation policy, and I really try to avoid making reservations that are that restrictive. Because, things happen, like Covid and wildfires. Peggy was kind enough to point out that she would provide a "rain check" if we cancelled, that is really not very helpful, as we are from Ohio, and if this trip didn't happen as planned, I was unsure if we would ever reschedule this trip. She did allow us five days prior, which was accommodating and appreciated. Breakfast was very tasty, although the methods were a bit odd. You must choose every single item you want "down to each pat of butter", the day before. And, you have to choose the time you want to eat, in half hour increments. Yes, I know...Covid. But this really puts a damper on the care-free vacation feeling that most travelers cherish. And, every other hotel we stayed at during our trip was back to regular breakfast buffets. So, as I said. Mostly good.

Very disappointed by this B&B

We were expecting so much from this B&B , having read the reviews. There are positives in that it is situated in a quiet street very close to the plaza and the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was tasty but there was not much variety. The grounds are in need of some t.l.c. and looked very sad and forgotten about. The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. The bathroom needed to be cleaned more thoroughly as did the sitting room area. Outside, the metal chairs were not wiped down. It just felt that staff were not going over and above to make sure that guests were comfortable. For the price we would have expected a much higher quality of service and accommodation.

A comforting place to stay when visiting Taos. Robert, the host, is especially helpful and kind. I can't wait to go back. I especially liked the quietness, the view of the mountains, and the proximity to Taos. But I must not leave out the hearty breakfast.

The new owners need a new cook

The food at the center was horrendous. Tasteless, overcooked, assertively macrobiotic, prepared with the cheapest ingredients, out of step with the local food culture. There were 20 of us at a yoga retreat who had prepaid for 3 meals/day.
