7 Bed and Breakfast Inns in Indianapolis: Best hotel deals for 2023

April 20, 2023 Joeann Galban

High-speed, history and good old Hoosier hospitality are a few reasons to put Indianapolis on your list of great getaways. Sports is another. From the legendary Indianapolis 500 to the Pacers and the Colts, the city offers ample opportunities to view professional and amateur sporting events, take part in athletic events and visit sports museums. At the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Hall Of Fame Museum you can tour the famous track (try to reserve tickets if there is a race in town) or visit the museum dedicated to automobiles and auto racing. Other sporty museums include the NCAA Hall of Champions. To get in on some of the action, head to SportZone which features six acres of indoor athletic facilities the whole family will enjoy. Those less interested in sports, or with kids in tow, can still find tons to do in and around the city. History, art and other cultural attractions abound. Visit the Children's Museum or checkout the zoo. Stroll along cobblestone streets past 19th-century buildings in the Lockerbie Square District or visit any number of historic landmarks. Known as the "Crossroads of America," more interstate highways bisect Indianapolis than any other city in the country, making it an exciting and easily accessible destination.

Hollywood Nights

If you are seeking an oasis in the midst of bustling Indy, look no further than Old Northside Bed and Breakfast, located in a quiet area of the historic district. We enjoyed a lovely 3 night stay in the "Hollywood Room" adorned with photos of old movie stars allowing a retreat from the madness of today's world into a nostalgic past. The hot breakfast (a different entree served each morning) along with fresh fruit, oj, toast, cereal and anything else you can imagine was outstanding. The inn is also stocked with ice cold water, a selection of soda, chips and delicious and often still warm, home made cookies baked by Gary himself. The inn is chock full of video tapes and dvds of any movie, past or present ever made. If your schedule is not full for the day, lay back and enjoy a flick with some homemade cookies or popcorn and if Gary is available, chat with him about his extraordinary life and the fascinating people he has encountered throughout. A magical stay thanks to our special innkeeper Gary who truly goes out of his way to make guests feel at home.

We look to welcome new visitors to our city and have created a warm, friendly environment - a home away from home - where travelers can relax by a fire, share their experiences and sleep in comfort. Located in the heart of the historic Old Northside, the Stone Soup Inn offers all the beauty and comfort of an upscale turn of the century home. After stepping into the large foyer, relax by the baby grand piano in the living room or cuddle up with a good book in our library. All of these rooms contain beautifully detailed woodwork and hardwood floors. Breakfast will be served in our distinctive dining room or, weather permitting, on the large, wraparound porch. On the second floor, share stories with other guests in the sitting room or outside on the spacious balcony overlooking the front garden and Lilly pond. Decorated with a combination of Mission-style and Victorian-era antiques, guests will find a comfortable, convenient place to stay as they explore nearby historic sites and downtown attractions.

Nice stay in the middle of things

We stayed recently and enjoyed it. DeWayne is a delight; helpful and friendly. As the website states some rooms share baths so if that is an issue for you, choose wisely. There are plently of spaces for a few people to gather for breakfast or card playing. Due to Covid retrictions the breakfast is a basket left at the door at 8 AM. If staying for just a night it would do nicely but for a more extended stay some variety would have been nice; instead of the daily Danish and muffin perhaps a croissant or bagel would be good. The daily coffee pods are excellent and compostable. Parking is right out the front door and it's a very nice walking neighborhood. Close enough to walk to the Garage food hall, which is just excellent.

Looking Glass Inn

Built in 1905, The Looking Glass Inn is located in the heart of the city’s Old Northside; an area that was home to the principal leaders of Indianapolis during the turn of the twentieth century. It was Elizabeth Gates, wife of a wholesale grocery merchant, who erected this Free Classic style mansion while living here until 1907. The Inn boasts 7 fabulous guestrooms all with private baths. A complimentary Butler's Pantry stocked with snacks and beverages is offered with every room as well as breakfast daily. The Looking Glass Inn opened its doors in February 1999 after the Life family purchased, fully renovated and tastefully redecorated the home.

Unique and charming stay!

On a recent trip to Indianapolis for a family wedding, my husband and I opted to stay at this charming B&B and I am SO glad we did! DeWayne, the innkeeper, greeted us and treated us to a little tour before showing us our room. We stayed in the Hideaway, which is a huge attic apartment! We had everything we needed for a pleasant stay. Breakfast was delivered promptly in an adorable basket at 8am, since they couldn’t do breakfast with Covid restrictions. Our room and the entire inn was spotless and tactful. The morning we departed, we asked if we could see Stone Soup Inn, their sister inn right behind Looking Glass. We definitely want to try this one next! DeWayne and the manager of Stone Soup were so gracious, kind, and welcoming. The neighborhood is clean, safe, and a wonderful place for a walk to enjoy downtown and it’s historic homes. I wish we could have stayed longer!!

Horrible night of sleep

Reviewed By celeste_nicole_eagle

The hotel was fine in most other categories except the most important - ability to sleep. It's located directly next to a Fedex distribution facility, and my husband and I could not sleep at all due to the extremely loud beeping, banging, and unloading of trucks all through the night. To the hotel's credit, they did give a small discount off our stay. But the front desk attendee told me "to request a room on the other side of the hotel next time." How was I supposed to know that in advance? I assured her that there will not be next time for us!

Dante's Ninth Ring -- unprepared/criminally dirty room

Reviewed By Stay563875

We have stayed with Choices Hotels before and have never had any major/untypical issues until this stay. I am a Choice Privilege member. Unfortunately, this was our first encounter with Dante's Ninth Ring of Hell. We had a room booked here for a stay in late May 2022. I made the reservation 7 months earlier on 12 October 2021. Confirmation Number: 49829671. Our reservation was for a standard King room. After checking in, I walked through the first floor room before bringing my luggage in, a practice I typically do. The room was a king, but it had no furniture save a table (cleverly shimmed with napkins - see pictures), a bed, a dresser, and a whirlpool tub (which I did not request). Overall, the room was shockingly poor in terms of SECURITY, REPAIR, CLEANLINESS, and UTILITY (gosh, aren't these basic services for a hotel). The automatic magnetic key entry door did not work properly and intermittently failed throughout our stay. There was no remote for the TV. Ceiling had visible water spots. The windows were so dirty you almost did not need to close the blinds. The bedspread had stains and holes in it. The pillowcases and pillows had very very visible yellow stains on them, the sink did not drain properly, the bath towels had dark oil or grease stains, and the dresser (bottom drawer) was coated in some type of clear, viscous liquid. The a/c DID work, however. The room was either the hotel's "cannibalization"/employee break room or a room they rented out by the hour for intimate encounters. I requested a new room but was told none were available. When I started to show the desk clerk some of the issues, he was polite but not interested in pleasing me. Rather, he was determined to "fix" some of the issues I pointed out. He did find us a remote. His solution to the plugged/slowing draining sink was to adjust the water from the faucet slower. I folded at this point as voicing my concerns was falling on deaf ears. I did get a remote delivered. This, btw, is what is posted on the hotel's website. "A note from Quality Inn & Suites Choice Hotels takes pride in its hotels’ long-standing dedication to cleanliness, including our 150+ point cleanliness checklist already on every housekeeping cart as part of the Room Condition & Cleanliness program. As part of the Commitment to Clean initiative, Choice Hotels has provided our franchisees additional educational resources - enhanced best practices and extensive cleaning, disinfecting, hygiene, and social distancing best practices and protocols - leveraging partnerships with industry leaders and providing hotels with the latest resources and training. In addition, every Choice-branded hotel will designate a “Commitment to Clean Captain,” who will complete best-in-class cleanliness training and will be responsible for incorporating the new protocols into their hotel’s operations. Choice is a signatory to the U.S. Travel Association’s Industry Guidelines to Ensure the Health and Safety of Travelers."
