3 day romantic getaway to the Poconos May 29-June 1

Pros: 1) Staff was very accommodating and pleasant, service was great. However, they failed to make up our room on day 2 even though we had the "card" in the door. 2) game room was good, loved the short lane bowling. 3) Room was unique.. we had the "Garden of Eden" room with heart shaped jacuzzi, with personal sauna and dip pool. Rooms have no windows which is a plus for privacy. Cons: 1) Not very good value unless going at a peak time where there is more participation in activities and overall # of clients, 2) nightly entertainment was bad due to lack of people, felt bad for the singers/guitarist playing "requests" for 6 people in the bar, 3) the place is dated.. they told me that was on purpose (that 70's feel), but still looked very aged. You can be retro without looking dated and old., 4) alcoholic drinks are EXPENSIVE, I understand not being included in the "all inclusive" rate (which is just breakfast and dinner), but at least include soda/pop. Overall we made it what we could, and did some golf (Country Club of Poconos) and hiked Bushkill Falls, as well as visited local winery which were the highlights of the trip. Would I go back.. maybe... but would try one of the other resorts in the group.

Birthday celebration

Skytop is a great place for a special occasion celebration. Its quiet enough in early June(minimal kids) Ample activites( fee for most) and the resaurants have great service and food. Be wary of The Library lounge and expensive cocktails. Rabbithole rye old fashion was 29$ yikes! Not justified. All in all a good experience in lodge accommodations and Windsor dining. Trying Lakeview tonite. Review to follow.

Wonderfully charming and relaxing place

Reviewed By meaganarn

My husband and I stayed 2 nights on a mid April holiday weekend for our anniversary. Not only did we have an amazing, relaxing trip but we are already planning to come back! Our king suite was perfect. We enjoyed having an extra sitting room to read a book and watch tv with the snacks left for us. Every room has its own private bathroom and we had a microwave and refrigerator. The Inn itself is so charming & cozy and the owners have decorated it so beautifully with every little detail. Mark immediately greeted us to make us feel welcome and showed us to our room and Carol told us about the candy dishes in the lobby! The first night we arrived late and ate in their restaurant, Butter. Mark went from showing us to our room to cooking the most amazing burger and pasta & lobster dishes we have ever had. Then we had breakfast the next morning and I ate every bite of my asparagus and truffle omelet. The food was so good we decided to eat dinner here again the second night. I cannot rave enough about the meals and Mark's chef skills. If you get the chance, ask him about it, you'll be amazed. There's a stream onsite with some chairs to just sit and relax and listen to the water. The seclusion for a few days was just what we needed. Thank you again Mark and Carol. We had a lovely time and we will definitely return.

Beware! No A/C!

Reviewed By VirginiaCandlewood

Our stay at the Brookview Manor Inn had a very rough start. Our reservation was prepaid so the Inn was expecting us, but after we checked in I was shocked to discover the A/C had not been turned on in our room. We arrived in the evening and wanted to go to bed, but it must have been at least 90 degrees in our third floor room at 10 pm. It took three hours for the room to cool down as the A/C was not very powerful. To top it off, during check-in the innkeeper asked us to turn off the A/C when we leave the room the next day, even though the forecast was 100 degrees and our room was on the top floor. The next morning I had to put my foot down and tell the innkeeper as we were leaving that we couldn't turn the A/C off because the room was close to 100 degrees the night before when we arrived. She actually began to argue, but her husband jumped in and said to just leave the A/C on. It is unthinkable an Inn operates this way in the midst of a July heatwave especially, but the A/C wasn't turned on in the bedrooms for arriving guests, and it is difficult to believe the innkeeper asks guests to turn the A/C off in their rooms in the middle of a heatwave. So if you are planning a summer stay I suggest contacting the Inn ahead of time and insisting the A/C is on before your arrival. After the A/C incident, everything went pretty smoothly and we enjoyed the rest of our stay, although there seems to be a problem with the electric short circuiting. The lights dim frequently, and during a shower the water shut off twice, then came back on within about 10 seconds, but it was all cold at first. The amount of food is generous and the chef obviously takes great care decorating his dishes. We were served plain scrambled eggs two days in a row, so the eggs could use a little dressing up. But overall the breakfast was very good and had a lot of variety with fruit, fresh muffins, waffles or French toast, sausage, and grits. It is an old house and there is no A/C in parts of the building. Since it's in the mountains I imagine the heat isn't usually a problem, but with the summer heatwave the foyer and halls were a bit warm at times. The breakfast room was air conditioned, though. The porch dining room uses open windows with screens, and there is a nice porch swing. The bed and breakfast doesn't have a traditional sitting room, however, only a foyer with a bar. It's impossible not to notice the carpet on the steps to the third floor was quite dirty and should be cleaned or replaced.
