We had originally booked a room at a hotel in a different more centralized touristy area. Unfortunately the owner of that place passed away, the hotel went into probate, and we had to scramble to get another room elsewhere. We could not find what we wanted in that area and finally booked this hotel in Balestrand. I remember being concerned about it being more difficult to get to and far away from the things we wanted to do. It turned out to be our favorite hotel and our favorite location of our trip. The room was clean, neat, quiet, well maintained, I have no complaints. The staff was friendly and helpful. The front rooms have fjord views. The back rooms have a hillside view. Our room was on the ground floor in the back, so we had a delightful little patio to sit on with flowers and a boulder that had water flowing over it Breakfast was OK, no better or worse than most. The parking for cars can be a little tricky. Someone at the hotel seems to be a Japanese Maple tree aficionado, and the other landscaping was pretty as well. The town center is a short walk away. When we finally packed up to leave Balestrand, I had tears in my eyes because it was so beautiful and peaceful and I did not want to go.

Historic Rooms are the Best

Very nice historic hotel with 8-story annex building on the back for bus tours - be careful what you book. Upgraded rooms in the Historic Building are worth the money. We had a Historic Double Room Front-Facing with balcony requested room (not many of the front-facing have balconies). The east-facing and even the rear-facing rooms have nice views also, Our room, 217 on the 3rd floor, was very nice. Exceptionally clean, remodeled bathroom, great bed and the deck was incredible! The sitting areas downstairs in the historic building and outside are incredible. Buffet breakfast was good, we did not do the dinner which was buffet one night and set 3-crs meal the others. Too much food for us and a little pricey, The lobby bar does have a limited menu which is OK. Only a couple of restaurants in town but Gekkens is very-very good and reasonable with a great menu! See separate review. Overall an excellent stay and we would definitely stay again if back in the area.

Location, service, and price!

Clean and comfortable room. Excellent buffet breakfast, managed to prevent spread of Covid--only one person used a serving utensil before it was replaced (good oversight). Friendly management. Lovely view of the fjord from my fourth floor room.

Dragsvik Fjordhotell

Family-run small hotel like a guest house, originally built up on a farm. Boutique style and with a panoramic views to Sognefjord. All rooms have a view to the fjord. Comfort and standard rooms. Nice garden with sitting areas to relax and a garden house. Restaurant serving local dishes from the region. Hiking trails nearby and close to a relaxing nature park with swimming area at Lunde arboretum, about 600 meters from the hotel. The hotel is situated about 300 meters from Dragsvik car ferry terminal and a short drive (10 minutes) to Balestrand center village with many interesting attractions. You can bike, take the bus or a taxi around the charming Esefjord on idyllic village roads

Great cabin, seems to cater for older people

Reviewed By Linda_Op_Reis

All the basics are allright: friendly staff, small hotel, great views over the fjord. But something felt a bit off, it’s just not our kind of place. The interior looked outdated, the clientele too, the staff too obliging, and long after Covid restrictions have been loosened, the owner kept wearing a facemask (making him difficult to understand) and insisting on bringing the breakfast to our table, because a buffet would be too dangerous. It’s just all a bit peculiar. Our Comfort Cabin is the reason why I still give it four stars, it was very spacious, veranda overlooking the fjord, quiet, spotlessly clean and luxurious beds + reclining seats. Definitely a place to chill out. We just sat there for hours, pretending to read, but actually just staring at the fjord.
