6 Top-Rated Bed and Breakfast Inns in Milwaukee, Wisconsin

April 22, 2023 Kelli Reichel

Located on the shores of Lake Michigan, Milwaukee is perhaps best known for its famous breweries and the Major League Brewers, but there's more to the city than beer and baseball. Milwaukee is rich in historical and cultural attractions, making it the perfect place for a weekend of exploring. Check out the newly expanded Milwaukee Art Museum or the Mitchell Park Horticultural Society, which hosts an annual show of the same flora and fauna seen in Georgia O'Keefe's paintings. Those interested in the city's history can visit the grand Pabst Mansion, former home of one of the city's famous beer barons, or the Milwaukee Public Museum, to see what life was like in Old Milwaukee. If the kids are along, don't miss the Milwaukee County Zoo or the Betty Brinn Children's Museum. Of course a trip to the "Genuine American City" would not be complete without a tour of the Miller Brewing Company and a Brewers game at Miller Park.

When I arrived the host Laura thought I was someone coming off the street to look at the house despite me having my luggage with. I explained I was staying and she reluctantly let me in. We sat in the front room after I replied I had had a challenging trip to her question how it went. She had pen and paper and i felt like I was in an interview. Instead of showing me to my room she wanted to know what I wanted for breakfast. I went for my bags and she was alarmed and said she needed to show me around. I interjected that I wanted to lay my things down before she continued. She showed me to the room and waited inside while I put my things down--strange. She asked was I ready to listen to more directions, I decided it was too much work to deny this sargeant. The next day I tried to make friendly overtures and she was as taciturn and unfriendly as before. Breakfast was good and her husband Rick was more friendly. However, when seated at the table and other guests came in she was effusively warm and kind to them and asked how breakfast was but not me. So, I finished my meal and went upstairs to get my bag. I saluted Rick and left not to return again. The house is in a poor, run down part of town and I was afraid to walk to catch the bus a block away. It was a 20 min ride to downtown. However, the residents walking around were more friendly than the host. It was incongruous to see the inn and its well-heeled guests in contrast to the surroundings. I was sad.

2 night stay in Sophie’s room

Overall very satisfied, only ding, is the lack of contact/ communication between the B&B and ourselves. I finally had to call the day of, to confirm that we had a room. Other than that, everything was very good, from the room, to the breakfast.

Wonderful hosts and a wonderful location!

Mary and Andrew are wonderful hosts. The Muse was the best place I stayed for my entire weeklong workcation road trip. The BnB also doubles as an art gallery of local Milwaukee artists so if you see something you like, you can likely even take it home! I stayed in the Julia room and would absolutely do it again. The bed was very comfortable and the soaking tub was sublime. Delicious breakfasts and great walkability to the nearby Kinnickinnic Ave which is full of local bars/breweries, restaurants, cafes, and even bookshops! Mary and Andrew would always have great recommendations for local places which was great since I struggled to choose sometimes with so many choices and only being there for a couple nights. Looking forward to visiting Milwaukee again and when I do I know I'd be staying at The Muse!

Very good but iffy neighborhood

Reviewed By Spaetzle7

Our room was at the very top with challenging stairs. Once there, it was lovely with an excellent whirlpool tub. A little fridge on the middle floor is well stocked with beverages and there are cookies too. The breakfast was very nice with the best coffee we had on our entire trip. The hosts were helpful and accommodating. Reason for four stars instead of 5? It’s on a busy street in an iffy neighborhood with only on street parking. Saturday night was hopefully fireworks… There are no outside spaces like a garden. The house is up on a small hill with tipped walkways. However, would stay again.
