Warm & friendly welcome

The hotel is very close to the exit for Velez-Blanco from the A317 but it isn't much of a walk to reach the centre of town. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming; coped really well with my limited Spanish. The view from our room at the front of the hotel was amazing. There was a decent amount of storage space for our large luggage (this stay was part of a larger tour so we had a lot with us) but only a few hangers. The towels were very good quality and the shower gel smelled delicious, I wanted to pinch it all. We were told at check-in that the air-con isn't very good so they gave us two fans to supplement it because it was very hot. Frustratingly there weren't many electrical sockets and using both fans meant we were limited to use the TV or phone charger etc There was a delicious smell of cooking as we arrived and we were told it was pintxo night, and it was that, that I could smell. The food in the restaurant was very good and not expensive; we ate there both evenings. It is popular with locals too, Thursday was especially lively being pintxo night because they are included in the price of a beer. We only had two nights here and could have stayed longer. A guide booklet we picked up in the hotel described Velez-Blanco as being "in the shelter of Monte Maimon on the side of a hill crowned by a magnificent castle" the whole area is full of history from Iberians, Romans, Visigoths & Moors. It's a good area for enjoying history, nature, walking and bird watching. The hotel is close to the castle and it was easy to find some of the fountains from the Moorish period, and if you wish to visit a cave with wall paintings they will arrange for the opening with the curators I'm certain we will return

We stayed here for 2 nights whilst viewing houses in the area. Parking is VERY hit and miss in the village so get a space when you find one and walk to the hotel. Met by a charming young man ( who luckily spoke english, as our pigeon spanish doesnt stretch very far) at reception who checked us in, gave loads of info re restaurants etc etc and showed us to a HUGE suite. Loads of spanish charm with portholes at feet level ( watch your head on the

Excellent food

We visited the area with friends, and found our way to El Palacil for lunch. We each ordered a main course, and our friend ordered a goat cheese salad as an extra. The portions of food were plentiful and very tasty. We opted for the lamb, which was amazing. Everything was fresh, with fabulous flavours. Service was great and the lady who served us asked if it was our first visit there (which it was) and she was patient while we practiced our Spanish. Set in lovely surroundings with a beautiful view, we would definitely recommend.
