North Park Yurts

Not Worth It

Reviewed By marcolius

I can't recommend their Black Bear Yurt. This is not a serene backcountry experience. I can readily do without plumbing and electricity, for good views, a scenic setting, and peace and quiet. This yurt has none of these. The view is basically sagebrush and a gravel parking lot. Significant highway and construction noise. You could get that at a motel with a toilet and a shower for a third the price. Also, their "stove" is two bare gas burners perilously close to a wooden wall and shelves. They did provide 10 (ten) skillets. Really. The people were nice, the bed was firm, and the deck was pleasant. That's about it.

Lake John fishing was a great experience. The scenery alone was breathtaking. I booked a professional guide, Jed from Northern Colorado Fishing Outfitters. The overall experience was awesome, and I just happen to catch my limit! The Staff at the resort are very friendly and helpful! I most definitely plan to return soon, and I hope to book a suite when I do!

North Park / Gould / Walden KOA

Previously A KOA

Reviewed By JP G

We loved the place. While lots of reviews focus on the stumps from the pines cut down, its absolutely beautiful. It is in an amazing location in Northpark accessing State Park Campground next door and the convergence of four rivers in the area. It went through a bit of a transition after the KOA lease was cancelled by some bureaucrat working for the state and then the property was scooped up (by one of their friends?), it seems to have stabilized. One of the nicest locations in Colorado. The kids playground is pretty run down but if you got your bases covered you can still use this location for a family venture into the North Park. This is one of the most remarkable locations for any KOA I had ever seen. (By the way did I make it clear its not a KOA anymore!)

Hoover Roundup Motel and RV Park

I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone, ever!

Reviewed By Shawn R

The saying: "If I could give it 0 stars I would!", doesn't apply any better than this place! I booked 2 rooms in mid-November for the local Walden ice fishing tournament in January. I don't own any credit cards, so I had a friend give me his. When I called there were plenty of rooms available. I reserved 2 rooms and asked if the manager could run the card. He suggested if it was multiple people coming to stay to not run the card but to have each person pay upon arrival. I liked his suggestion and gave him the card number just in case. I then called the morning of the tournament to double check that I still had 2 rooms reserved. nobody answered so I left a message to have them call me back. No-one called back, so I called one more time later that afternoon. The same manager stated that he had booked all the rooms out to the oil drillers in town, and that I had never made a reservation. He stated "I do all the book keeping here and I don't make mistakes". Needless to say he made a mistake that would cost 4 of us to not have a room. If you know of this tournament it can bring 400-700 people into this small town. Driving from Ft. Collins (which is more than 2 hours away and in January) and not having anywhere to stay, is a major issue. I will never attempt to stay at this place again in the future. There was no remorse from the manager or apology for the fact that it was his fault that we were literally out on the streets sleeping in a vehicle in -5 degree weather!!!

Long for the old days? These cabins are for you.

Reviewed By Doug K

Although the cabins have beds, mattresses, refig, microwave, coffee maker, cook stove burners and a space heater, you must provide your linen and pillows. The cabins lack water and the out house is at least 100 feet away. The cabins also lack locks so you may want to take your valuables with you when you leave the cabin for any length of time. The owners live on site and are helpful and friendly but unless you are willing to live without water and indoor plumbing the cabins may not be your cup of tea.
