Brooks Lodge

In the Heart of the Magnificent Katmai Wilderness Brooks Lodge overlooks the world famous Brooks River in the heart of Katmai National Park. The lodge, originally conceived as a fishing camp, has been in operation since 1950. The facilities have seen continuous upgrading and have gained a world-wide reputation, attracting visitors from all continents. Bear viewing at Brooks Falls is only a short walk away. Guest accommodations consist of sixteen modern rooms all with modern private facilities. Rooms accommodate two to four persons. The beautiful main lodge building boasts a spectacular view of aquamarine Naknek Lake. Its large circular fireplace is popular for evening relaxing and reminiscing about the day's adventures. Hearty Alaska fare is served three times a day buffet style in the dining area of the lodge. Cocktails are available for purchase at the lodge bar each afternoon and evening. The world famous bear viewing at Brooks Falls is only a short walk from Katmailand's Brooks Lodge. As many as fifty bears live along the mile and a half long Brooks River during the salmon season. Many visitors see bears within minutes of arrival. All visitors are instructed by the National Park Service on how to conduct themselves in "Bear Country". Superb sportfishing is available adjacent to the lodge on the Brooks River and on the Brooks and Naknek Lakes. The Brooks River is fly fishing only. The Brooks Lodge fishing packages are for independent minded fly fishermen who want to experience the great sportfishing of the Katmai area without the expense of a fully guided sportfishing lodge. Including fly outs in your stay will provide the means to fish other hot spots and allow you to take advantage of the variety of species of fish available in southwest Alaska. At Brooks Lodge you are just 22 miles from the volcanic "Valley of 10,000 Smokes". The Valley is the sight of one of the most violent eruptions in modern history. Novarupta Volcano exploded in 1912 with blasts of hot winds and gas which spewed hot glowing pumice and ash, destroying all living things and burying more than 40 square miles of lush green valley under ash deposits to depths of 700 feet. Daily tours of "Valley of 10,000 Smokes" depart from Brooks Lodge daily. Comfortable accommodations in the heart of the magnificent Katmai wilderness make this a truly perfect vacation spot.

Yes, it is remote and pricey. But worth every single penny. The cabins are definitely not lavish but comfortable and worth it so you can get more bear viewing in. The staff and rangers are friendly. We stayed two nights, but next time we will stay four. This is my happy place!

The most wonderful and amazing experience my wife and I have ever had. The lodge and the people running it are all amazing and friendly to the highest degree. It’s tough to start somewhere for a review. We were immediately welcomed by everyone. The cabins are cozy, but that’s ok because if you need them for anything other than collapsing after an amazing day in the park and a wonderful meal you’re doing it wrong. The lodge is a great place to relax with books and movies to watch. They also offer a laptop to check in if you need to because there’s no wifi… and it’s perfect. Angela and Perry are the greatest hosts you could imagine. Tom is an incredible chef and super guy to talk to. You will not go hungry here! Jake and Dustin took great care of us out in the backcountry. We never felt unsafe for even a second around bears several times larger than me. They took us to see so much wildlife. Bears, seals, sea lions, puffins, eagles, and more. Bring a good camera with a zoom lens to get some amazing souvenir pictures. Make sure you’ve got solid outdoor gear too. You can get supplies in Kodiak before you fly over. Most of all, enjoy yourselves in the park. You’re in the best possible hands you could be in. Angela, Perry, Tom, Jake, and Dustin.. we’ll miss you all, but we’ll be back one day!!!! Thank you all so much!

We loved it!!! What else can I say. Mainly a fishing joint, but we who dont fish would love to go back and learn how to. We were there for the salmon run at Brooks Falls. You just get spoiled out here. Maximum guests on the island is low 20’s. Staff is about 26. Love to fish but your husband doesnt? - you still get a guide just for you. Food is really good. I can go on and on…

Rainbow Trout and Bears are the best.

I have fished for rainbow trout in Wisconsin, New Hampshire, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado and many places in between. I have never seen the quantity of 20"+ rainbow trout. While it may have been just good luck or good guides, the fishing was great. Besides the "Bows", we caught northern pike (bring steel leaders), grayling and lake trout. For your float trip, do not miss the bears eating the salmon at the Brooks Camp National Park.

Grosvenor Lodge

Expect seclusion and comfortable accommodations at Grosvenor, not to mention the great fishing for rainbows, char, lake trout, pike and sockeye salmon (in season). The narrows area adjacent to the lodge provides excellent fishing. Grosvenor also has access by jet boat to some of the area's finest fishing streams. Two of the rivers accessible from Grosvenor are the largest spawning streams for sockeye salmon in the Naknek drainage, getting more than 100,000 fish each annually. Grosvenor truly provides the "it feels like my own fishing lodge" experience and is ideal for families, business associates or a group of fishing buddies. Guests are accommodated in the three guest cabins which have heat and electricity. A completely modern bathhouse is situated right next to the cabins. The kitchen and dining area feature a great view of Grosvenor Lake. Many a tale has been told in the main lodge which houses the lounging area and bar, where complimentary cocktails are served each evening. The personable staff, comfortable accommodations, and excellent fishing assure you a memorable fishing experience. Four (4) guests is considered a full camp, however if a group would like to book the entire lodge, up to six (6) guests can be comfortably accommodated.

Unexpected experience

I had expected the typical edible but unexciting Lodge food at Grosvenor Lodge. I was totally blown away by the meals prepared by Chef Jeremy Wright. The food was what one would experience at a Michelin Star Restaurant. Having surprisingly awesome food definitely made this a much more pleasurable vacation as I like good food. I also had fun fishing and the environment was beautiful and peaceful.
