Bahia (locally [baˈi.ɐ]) is one of the 26 states of Brazil and is located in the northeastern part of the country on the Atlantic coast. It is the 4th-largest Brazilian state by population (after São Paulo, Minas Gerais, and Rio de Janeiro) and the 5th-largest by area. Bahia's capital is the city of Salvador (formerly known as "Cidade do São Salvador da Bahia de Todos os Santos", lit. "City of Holy Saviour of All Saints Bay"), located on a spit of land separating the Bay of All Saints from the Atlantic. Once a monarchial stronghold dominated by agricultural, slaving, and ranching interests, Bahia is now a major manufacturing center whose last three elections have been dominated by the Workers' Party.

This was by far the highlights of my trip to Chapada Diamantina National Park I hired a skilled guide from 'Trilhas Chapada' who took great care of as we made our 2-hour trek to the Fumaca Waterfall. This was quite hard as you go through different terrains. I could not have done it without the encouragement of Juliano Silva Neves! In fact, there are guides who take advantage of your fatigue and encourage you to turn back. That way they get your money all the same - they have seen these beauty spots so many times!! This was not the case with Juliano who made sure I actually appreciated Fumaca from different angles. If you ever need a guide to explore the Chapada, Juiano is your man: julianolencois at hotmail.com

The trail to get to the fall is a little over 3km. The last part is the hardest, down the rocks. But when you find yourself inside this cauldron, you will forget the difficulties. It’s a huge fall and it feels like the water is held in this pan-shaped pool. Absolutely marvelous.
