This is a gorgeous place, especially now, in the spring. The nature is wonderful, the territory of the park is very well-groomed. After the president's escape, people stayed here to look after and take care of the place. The house inside is completely different, made with bad taste, in the royal style. Seems like the person had problems with his ego. The tour is good, the guide is very knowledgeable about the current situation in Ukraine. So come here in good weather and enjoy your walk! P.S. to get inside the retro car museum you need to take a golf cart, it’s extra experiences.

Cobblestoned and packed with souvenir stalls, cafes and art galleries, ST.ANDREWS DESCENT is compared to Parisian MONTMARTRE. Winding down a 87m hill, it serves as a shortcut from the Upper to the Lower City (Podil). The street boasts one of the world's best observation decks that offers a panoramic view of the Lower City – the view ranked by the Guardian as one of the 10 best city views on the Planet Earth. Dominating the street is the 18th century St.Andrew's Church inscribed in the list of 1000 Wonders of the Planet Earth (compiled in Germany). The street is flanked with the 19th and early 20th cent. mansions, most of which are architectural monuments. Very much like MONTMARTRE, in the early 20th cent. the street was home and a hangout for painters and sculptors. The tour includes climbing the stairs leading to Khorevytsia Mound (walking shoes advised) to get a feel where Kyiv began to exist in the 5th cent. and enjoy an aerial view of nouveaux riches' Vozdvizhenka housing estate.

Already the preparation was great: Inna spent considerable time to find out exactly what I might be interested in and based on that proposed the perfect itinerary: I wanted to see some of the main sights of course, but I also wanted to get a feeling for the vibes of the city: Have a coffee in a local coffeeshop and watch the world go by, visit parts of the city where your average tourist might not venture. So, thats what we did. We did a long walking tour through the heart of Kiev on the first day with a couple of coffee stops in between. And then we visited Kyiv Pechersk Lavra monestary, the War Museum (History of Ukraine in the Second World War), and Mezhyhirya Residence (former Pres Yanukovych‘s last residence before he relocated to Russia). The two days were fun-packed and I wish I had had a few more days to spend there. Inna certainly would have had the energy and plenty of ideas to show me even more: For example she suggested a tour on the Dnepr and a fun tour on segways through the park that surrounds the Mezhyhirya residence. Both sound like fun, but I had to save these for my next visit. Over the course of these two days I learned a lot about the city, the people that live there, their history, the sights we visited. It was the perfect mini break I had hoped for. Inna is fluent in English, so communication was easy - and by the way, if you are not fluent in Ukranian or Russian, I highly recommend you dont waste your time trying to explore the city on your own, You would miss out on so much... Holiday time is precious, so if you want to get the most out of your time in Kiev, get in touch with Inna from kyivisit.com
