Excellent Stay in Waikiki

Reviewed By Ambassador118751

Beautiful resort and great location! It was close to everything! The staff was very nice, the hotel and the units were extremely clean. I loved that their laundry for guests was free! That is very appreciated! My only complaint is that their floors are not secure. Meaning anyone off the streets can walk in, get on an elevator and go to any floor. That was disappointing, but everything else was wonderful. The pool was great too!

Quiet, great location

Reviewed By Evelina62

The location is the best feature of this resort. Our upstairs unit had a balcony facing the canopy of a rainforest! We would have our morning coffee on this balcony listening to the enchanting sounds of the birds hidden in there. The pool and jacuzzi were quiet during our stay. BBQ area was right next to our building, and there was an ice chest in the unit to be used at the beach. The drawback of this gem of a property is that it is old; so is all the furniture in the unit. The A/C was too noisy and we had to shut it off and open vents during our stay. The bathroom had no tub! The property has bikes available for free for two-hours at a time. All in all, there were pros and cons about staying at the Makai.

Hidden Gem of Kona

What a special place. I can’t say enough good things about the location, surroundings, amenities, and the people. It was so fun getting to meet other like-minded guests and some of the residents. The property is stunning- enjoyed the hot tub/pool before bed and waking up to the sound of birds. A lush oasis on the hills above Kona. I’m so grateful to have found this quiet, rejuvenating retreat.

Ocean Front one bedroom condo

This resort like most on the ocean side of Kona is older, however it is well maintained and away fom the busy downtown area. Our one bedroom condo 313 has lanais off both bedroom and living room, which was spectacular. The unit itself has newer furnishings ,if a little spartan ,but need some updating of appliances and cupboards. The kitchen is pretty well equiped .On arrival we found both lanai screen doors were broken and also the front door screen had a broken lock.We spoke to Stephen the maintainence man and he fixed everything very promptly. We enjoyed our stay here ,for two people who like to cook it was great . There is no AC but the fans are good except mid afternoon when AC would have been nice.

Lovely Beachfront Setting

Reviewed By ldbalog

Stayed here for four nights just this past month and it was perfect! Great beach out front, walk to snorkeling, running path just outside the Bungalows, and a grocery store within about a five-minute walk. The setting was ideal for us as the beach was not too busy and the bungalow we stayed in was recently updated with plenty of indoor and outdoor space. Would definitely come back again.

Pool Rules ruined it for me.

Reviewed By 620willl

The swimming pool was recently upgraded; therefore, it looks very nice. Unfortunately, the rules are quite ridiculous. Pool opens at 9am and closes at 5pm and anyone under 18 years old must get out of the water for 15 minutes at the top of each hour. I understand the lifeguards are just doing what they're told but I didn't appreciate having a whistle blown at me like a child. Me and my 14-year-old daughter left the pool area and enjoyed the beach where we felt much more free to enjoy without being policed by the guards.

The smart choice

Reviewed By NC0114

Maui is expensive; so we cut costs and chose a condo over a hotel. Not only could we DIY on the cooking, but the landlord left us everything that we’d need to put in the car that’d make our daytrips more memorable. And Kihei’s got great nearby amenities without having to traipse into Lahaina and pay extra.

A nice getaway

Reviewed By MdTravelerX2

We had a two-bedroom cottage with full kitchen. It was a bargain. One is expected to “leave it as you found it”, which includes stripping the beds, sweeping the floors, etc. Wonderful views of Niihau, an essentially private beach, convenient to the NEX, Shenanigans and more.
