The staff is amazing at this beautiful park!

This was our second trip to Carter Caves and our first time staying at the lodge. The woman that checked us in on February 18th (at night) was so nice! She checked us in promptly and she was so friendly. Our room smelled good and was very clean. The beds were comfortable too! The park itself is beautiful. We hiked with our dogs on some of the trails. We visited the gift shop which is very nice! We love that the lodges in Kentucky are pet friendly, since we always travel with our dogs. We ordered all of our meals as carry outs from the lodge restaurant. The food was so good every time, and was always hot and fresh. It's a good deal for the price too. And the people working the restaurant are so friendly. They give you everything you need with your meal and we never had to ask for napkins or ketchup or anything. They never forgot stuff either! It was awesome and so convenient for us! Every single person we encountered working there was so great. Please keep up the good work! We have stayed at many state parks in Kentucky and other states and this one has the best staff we've encountered by far. Can't wait to come back and visit this beautiful place!

The staff was very helpful in giving us a room when I didn’t make reservations and they were only running at half capacity due to staffing issues. The lodge is past it’s prime and needs a complete overhaul. The WiFi and tv are awful. Both are satellite. Three of us in one room and only one ata time could get online. If you like sports or news you will like the tv. Restaurant had good food but was carry out only. No breakfast. Stay was ok, but will go on to Hazard at stay at a hotel next time.

Total Disappointment

I was so excited to take this business trip. My husband and I were attending a conference at Jenny Wiley. Everything was going great until we entered our room. It was like entering your grandparents basement. I kid you not. It was ice cold. This is forgivable due to the power being off for a while that day. We expected the bright pretty room shown in the picture. It was dank, dark and 59°. We turned the heat up to 78° but freezing air was all that came out. There were NO BLANKETS on the bed or in any drawer or closet that we could find. The curtains that hid the horrible view outside (the description said nice views) were torn and falling off the window. The staff was great though. They gave me a refund for the almost $80 I had paid. No questions asked. I cant figure out why they didn't ask though.

Animal House in Lexington

Reviewed By Michael L

This place is like animal house. They keep the bar open until midnight and all of the rooms are open to the bar. It's extremely loud, people clapping and it's like you're in the bar with them. I have no idea why they keep the bar open until midnight on a Wednesday. Do yourself a favor and stay across the street at Embassay Suites, you'll thank me later.

Disappointing Facilities

Reviewed By Larry M

First time at a Kentucky State Park and probably our last. Now I see why so many from Kentucky travel to Indiana campgrounds. Our site #117 was listed as a slight incline but it took everything we had to level our 20 ft travel trailer somewhat close. Be sure to bring plenty of water hose and electric cord. It took our standard 30 ft plus 20 ft extension for electric and nearly 75 ft of water hose. Shower house facilities in desperate need of upkeep. Exhaust fans do not work. Most of the outdoor lights do not work. Shower heads squirt out a thin line of water because the heads don’t work correctly. The men’s restroom/shower did not have any way to dry your hands as there was no paper towels and the hand dryer did not work. I had read the campground had internet available but it did not exist. Our campsite and our son’s campsite had trash leftover from previous campers and the fire pits had not been cleaned. This campground reminds us very much of a private campground/RV park. Many of the sites are squeezed in and the “pull-through” are just pull-offs the road with very little space to enjoy. And forget about the rules about not parking on the grass and limit of 2 vehicles per spot. Firewood policy not enforced either. We left all of ours at home needlessly. Lesson learned.

Rent your pontoon here!!!

If you are vacationing on Kentucky Lake and staying in the Benton/Gilbertsville area, rent your pontoon boat here! The boats are in great shape and the location is excellent. More importantly, the price is the most reasonable on the lake (i researched it) and the owners are the nicest, most helpful people you will ever meet. I rent from these guys every summer and will never go anywhere else!

Great place to stay for fishing

Reviewed By Janice H

We stayed in the Minnow 2. It was adequate for us and two dogs. We love that this place is pet friendly, no pets is always a problem for us. It was fully stocked with everything we needed in the kitchen, we just had to bring the food. I was not a fan of the position of the bed, as it was up against the wall on one side, the side I slept on. It was comfortable, and if I was about 10 years younger getting out of it in the middle of the night would not have been a problem. I'm sure not all cabins have that layout. The dock was awesome the way they have it lined on the sides with tires, so there's no way to damage your boat. We will say it's boat friendly too. We were basically there to fish the during second week of September. The lake was beautiful and the fishing was good.
