Average stay in an amazing city.

The room was clean. Pillows were lack luster, bed so-so, a very average low end room. The windows were new and opened to let a cool breeze in through night. The restaurant had decent food with not so good service.

We stayed at San Simeon for a stop over whilst travelling north from LA. We arrived quite late in the evening but it was easy to find and the reception staff were very attentive. Despite how late it was the place was very rowdy! Obviously some type of party/get together going on. Our room was pretty dated but clean. 2 queen beds and most of the essentials you need for a nights stay. Pros. Clean, Tidy, Huge Car Park, Staff. Negatives.... there are a few. Unfortunately this place is so dated! Some repairs you'd like to see sorted even if they dont clean up the decor. It was so noisy, even when in the room. You can hear all the other rooms and the hallway was busy all night long!! Because they allow pets we heard a dog almost all evening. Be aware that if there are pets staying here then its likely that they are on their own for periods at a time. Sleep was difficult due to the noise till about 2am. Come 7am it started again!! All in all with different guests this would have been a good stop over. However, for us we were happy with just the one night.

Pleasantly surprised

Reviewed By Tedebt

It was a nice surprise and I wouldn't have minded staying longer. Liked · We had room #11 which had a King bed and was right at the entrance to the establishment (didn't hear any road noise). Now I don't know if all the rooms are the same size or maybe just the two rooms on either side of the entrance (shape of building made those two rooms look like they might have been bigger), but it was very roomy. It had a small couch as well as a small round dining room table with two chairs. It had the usual fridge, microwave, coffee maker (liked that it was a small 4 cup pot instead of making one cup at a time), and tv. Loved that it was a large walk in shower (now as I'm getting older that makes it so much easier for me to get in and out of). Water pressure was good though I noticed it started to run out of Hot water, I never actually ran out but it was turning into warm not Hot, so you might want to take a shower at a time not everyone else in the motel is or take a fast one just incase. Though to be honest I wasn't paying attention to how long I was in the shower (I had taken a walk around town and trip and fell and banged myself up pretty good so I was taking a long shower to help with the aches before going to bed). Oh, they also had a couple of toothbrushes, toothpaste, shower cap, and lotion. Bed and pillows where comfortable. The lady at the front desk was very nice (I had gone to ask for couple of pkgs. of decaf. coffee and her husband had to find where he had stored the box so she asked if I could give them 30 minutes). I told her no rush I would come back later since we where going to go and get something to eat (at Martin's... great food Mexican, American, and in the evening they also make Italian and they do all of it well... we have eaten there every time we are in town... 2 buildings up from the motel). When we got back I decided to go and see about the coffee but the lady had kept an eye out for me and brought it to our room just as I opened the door to go to see her ^_^. Should probably mention for anyone who is staying longer (ours stay was just one day) and brings a lot of clothes with them there isn't a closet, just a small area that has a wooden rack on the wall for you to hang clothes on. Disliked · Only thing that bothered me was I had the heater/air conditioner fan set on low but even then it was very loud every time it kicked on, but it worked so it wasn't a deal breaker. No carpeting in the room which I can understand (makes it easier to clean what with people possible tracking in sand from the beach), but it did make me aware how cold a floor can get in the morning if you decided to go barefoot in the room, lol. Oh, we did ended up having to park in the street because the parking spots where narrow and short (we have a 4 door Toyota Tacoma) and we didn't want to block anyone. We could see the truck from our room and there is no restriction on length of time it can be parked on the street (they really don't have heavy traffic going through town except maybe during certain holidays).

What a lucky find!

We stayed here while driving from San Francisco down the coast towards Los Angeles & found it almost by accident as it was time to stop driving for the day. The location is superb - right on the beach to watch magnificent sunsets with lovely outdoor areas with seating, games & fire pits. Amy who checked us in was so lovely & helpful & even called to see if we had settled in ok. We were so taken with the place we stayed an extra night. The room was fine & the credit towards breakfast was most welcome. The on-site Cavalier restaurant is good. They were very busy & somewhat understaffed on our second night but warned us there might be a wait for food & couldn't apologise enough. I would recommend the Sands especially at the price they charge & every staff member we met was pleasant & helpful.
