10 Top-Rated Motels in North Dakota

April 19, 2023 Viva Honore

If you’ve never thought much about North Dakota, maybe it’s time you started. Boasting miles and miles of hiking trails, including the Lewis and Clark trail, in addition to multiple museums, golf courses, casinos and amusement parks, North Dakota is bursting with things to do. Situated smack between the Great Lakes and the Pacific Ocean, North Dakota was once called “America’s Most Affordable Vacation Site” by the American Automobile Association. Meriwether Lewis and William Clark are two of North Dakota’s most famous residents. Tracing the courses of the Missouri and Columbia and rivers, the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail stretches through 11 states. Thanks to their explorations, visitors to North Dakota with an interest in history can do some exploring of their own. Bismarck is not only the capital of the state, it’s also home to several Lewis and Clark historical sites including Fort Yates, where the pair stopped to trade with the Mandan Indians. For family fun in Bismarck, don’t miss the Dakota Zoo and Raging Rivers Waterpark. With more golf courses per capita than any other state (11 in Bismarck and Fargo alone), golf lovers are sure to find a course to their liking. Agri-tourism is also a popular activity in North Dakota, which ranks first in the production of spring wheat, durum wheat, sunflowers, barley, honey and other crops.

The issues are minor and few, but just enough to take "the shine" off the 5-star rating these usually get. If I could make it a 4.5, that would be more accurate. Location: a little difficult to reach. Some of that has to do with the convoluted design of the roads in Fargo. Facility: no automatic doors?! Staff: friendly, helpful, and obviously new. They'll get in the groove soon, I suspect. Room: Comfortable bed and pillows. Bathroom facilities worked great, but I'm not a fan of liquid body wash products, especially in a setting where I can't tell if they have been tampered with. Nice room location at end of hall, ground floor. Surprisingly little noise from outside or inside. (Perhaps the current guests were all just behaving well?). None of these would keep me from coming back. If fact, it's likely that we will.

We have stayed here several times. The last in 2018 before this trip. Although this is a nice place overall. the level of service has slipped. We stayed 3 nites . Although towels and bedding were never changed due to conservation, it would have been nice to have trash removed daily. This never happened. Trash piled up quickly. Also quality of morning breakfast has declined. Selection of choices has decreased. No bagels. Just bananas for fruit. Powdered scrambled eggs were terrible. Hot tub was way too hot. Could have cooked a lobster. Still a vert clean hotel.

My son's wedding receptiion was held here. Food and service were great. Few glitches, biggest being table linens were stained. Staff was good to work with. Rooms were okay. Little dated but comfortable. Continental breakfast was okay also. A few hot items, cereal, breads and rolls. Only apples for fruit. Front desk people were very accommodating! One of bridesmaids broke a strap on her gown and clerk gave us a small sewing kit. Check in and check out very easy.

Just don’t!

Reviewed By rmontg300972

Upon booking this room you’ll think it looks great for yourself and family to stay. Don’t be fooled by the pictures. This is not a family friendly hotel. This is a place for greasy, dirty, loud, oil-fielders to lay their heads for a few weeks. You can tell many oil-fielders have done so and trashed the place. The dumpster area that is wide open for you to see, shares exactly what to expect when you get into your room. Sue, was an amazing manager to see we were reconciled for the counter top leg falling on our child. The front desk lady was just as apologetic. The bed sizes advertised are not correct, also. It is definitely not a queen and a double; it’s a double and a twin/single. I hope I help to deter you from here and to seek out a better place for your family.

Excellent Burgers!

Reviewed By VacayDay931

Even though we stayed at the hotel across the street, we stopped in here for burgers based on the recommendation of a lady at the neighboring gas station. Some of the BEST burgers we’ve had! Apparently, they get their ground beef from the local meat market, and the buns are baked fresh daily! WHAT?! I know! We’ll stay at the other hotel again, but will definitely venture across the street for burgers at this place!
