The View & the Quiet

What a charming, lovely retreat. The hotel is right on the water and they offer kayaks and canoes. The accommodations are very comfortable, linens quite nice, staff are lovely. But, the porch overlooking the lake is absolutely wonderful. The hotel itself is older and really more of a motel. But, you couldn't ask for better ambiance or more charm.

Lake House Lake Placid by High Peaks Resort - Terrible Service

Reviewed By jameswS8637JY

My wife and I booked the Lake House at Lake Placid by High Peaks Resort for our trip to Lake Placid. Due to medical issues, we had to leave early and inquired about a refund for the days we missed. The manager at the High Peaks Resort passed the buck and told us to call the third party we booked through regarding this. We called them and the third party told us it is up to High Peaks Resort. After calling multiple times and being told High Peaks Resorts reservation person was "busy", we finally got through and they told us there was nothing they could do. But then the people at the Lake House at Lake Placid asked if we would be vacating so they could rent out the room again. The actual room at the Lake House was pretty small but the location was great and within walking distance to town. However, due to the terrible customer service, we cannot recommend High Peaks Resort or the Lake House at Lake Placid. We will be advising our friends and family to go elsewhere and recommend you do too.

Not so good .

Reviewed By stubby29

Ok the positive , room was large ( lower ) clean , bed was pretty good . Parking right in front of room . Now the negative , bathroom was really outdated with rust and mold showing , very cheap shower curtain , little hot water for shower . The most annoying was the peaking lot . A sheet of ice , what does it take to salt it ? Also no one at front desk . Pool was out of service , no continental breakfest so why charge the full price ? We left early due to a sickness no refund on that . Really need that money i guess . Go somewhere eles for the money .

Small & stuffy but clean

Reviewed By hawknoah

Let me start by saying that the area can be expensive depending on the time of year. I booked Maple Leaf Inn based on my budget and positive reviews and it was pretty much what I expected. It’s an old motor lodge really and you can walk to the town, around mirror lake, and to various commerce without taking the car, which was nice. On the plus side, it is clean and the proprietor is friendly. Location as I mentioned above is good and parking is free although be prepared to parallel park in a tight lot in front of your unit. TV was a decent size for the size of the room. There is a good sized fridge and a microwave. If you’re staying awhile, there is a roomy dresser and a closet. I think the room was well insulated for sound because we didn’t hear our neighbors much even when someone was blasting music outside. Be aware the room is a small one. I would guess maybe 15x11 so things are tight. I knew this would be the case but even though I tempered my expectations, it’s not exactly comfortable. Bathroom is similarly tiny although shower worked well (after I cleaned a wad of hair out to get it to drain). Room air conditioner struggled on a 65 degree night to get the room cool. It’s an old place and the decor and HVAC reflect that. This room is better if you just come in to sleep rather than if you plan on spending much time in it. We had some rainy weather so we were at the room more than we had hoped for. Interestingly, this is the first time I’ve been in a hotel since the pandemic started that cleaning came in to make up the room. Neither here nor there, I just wasn’t expecting that these days. Overall, a small but pleasant enough place that met expectations. I think if I ever find myself in the area again, I would try to afford a bigger newer room.

You’ll enjoy this drive-up-to-your-door motel

I really enjoyed this quaint motel. It’s very clean. I like the old-style motels where you park outside your door. Special perks — the room had Roku so we could watch on our Netflix account. The owners offered free ice for our cooler. Each room has two lawn chairs plus there are two outdoor fireplaces with Adirondack chairs. It’s located one block from the Screaming Eagle. We enjoyed selections from their 50 beers on tap while eating dinner one night. There are several gift shops, a grocery store, and a city park all within an easy walk. There’s also a game room/lounge where continental breakfast is served. Nice place, very well kept, older style motel.

Clean & comfy cabins and rooms with knotty pine interior. A/C, cable, fridges, & wi-fi. Line dried sheets. Evening campfire, horseshoes, volleyball and complimentary morning coffee. Close to public beaches, fishing, horseback riding, and golf. More than a motel - we are friendly and family oriented. We accept pets.

Charming, clean, rustic and lovely.

Our rooms were in the hotel part, but as soon as you went inside they felt like a cabin. Lots of attention paid to cozy decor. Wi-fi was great. The owner directed us to an excellent local restaurant, and even called first to make sure they were open. Coffee in the misty morning was wonderful, especially in a hand-built gazebo with a carved bear for company. Very nice people. Hope to come back someday.

Didn't visit, just talked to the rude lady on the phone.

Reviewed By Mary G

I didn't even get a chance to stay at this place and after reading most of the reviews, I'm glad. I made a reservation for a week later than I intended. Yes, it was my mistake and I own it, but when I tried to transfer the reservation to my 26 year old son I was told by the owner I would still have to be there at check in. Apparently there is a very strict "no change" policy. In addition, since I was coming into town the week before my reservation (the weekend I actually meant to make the reservation for) I asked if I could sign for the reservation at that time and was told no. I was on the phone with this woman for 30 minutes and she refused to do anything to help. Incidentally I made the reservation through Expedia so it was completely paid for. She had my money ($420) but would not accept any other scenario expect me signing her registration form on the actual registration day. She was also very rude and condescending while on the phone. I work in retail and would be fired if I talked to customers like that. Good thing she's the owner ?. I'm just sick over this matter. That's $420 down the tube.
