L'Alpen"DIRTY"rose Hotel ?

DO NOT STAY at this "4 Star" hotel. On arrival we found our room to be incredibly dirty with stained mattresses, dirty sheets dust, grime and even skid marks in the toilet. The staff at the hotel never gave a welcoming vibe from the very beginnig and showed no signed of hospitality, even when asking for an additional pillow to sleep with we were laughed at and told no. Upon leaving ending our stay we ensured the room was spotless (we were only told to remove bedsheets and ensure there was no rubbish). The room was left in a much better condition than we found it and yet we were CHARGED $100 ! For what? There was nothing more we could have done to clean the room. After chasing multiple times we were advised that they have a narrow window and if they have to clean a room they will charge extra! What kind of 4 Star hotel does not clean a room as standard! DISGUSTING! The location, pool and steam room were all very good.

Delicious food. Extremely friendly and nice people. The owner made sure everything was going great and made us feel welcome. The bread is served right out of the oven and goes perfectly well with the delightful dishes served. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

School ski trip

Reviewed By OliverWilliams4444

I stayed at the Cap Vacances hotel for a week during my school’s ski trip. The location was excellent- right next to the main chairlift, meaning that you could walk with your skis to the lift within two minutes. There were also plenty of things to do in the town to keep you entertained whilst not skiing such as some nice creperys, shops and at this time of the year- the popular RISE music festival. The accommodation was average, bearable but unpleasant. The bathroom was the size of a closet and when performing a numbrero dos, your foot would have been in the shower. The beds were okay but small and were able to be moved too easily as well as the duvet being twice the size of the actual bed. In addition, successfully using and connecting to the WiFi shared the same chances of trying to draw blood out of a stone- a teenager’s nightmare. The food, despite being cooked on mass proportion, was still unliked by many of my peers. Perhaps it could be improved with the choice of more universally popular meals rather than a turkey and cheese parcel for instance. Having said that, every meal time there were a bunch of sourdough baguettes which were delicious and meant that if you didn’t like the meal there was always a backup option. Overall the accommodation was decent enough for a school trip and the staff all seemed friendly too. Would I go again? Probably not, I would want to try other hotels.

Chalet Saskia

Our luxury catered ski chalet Saskia has consistently been the most popular choice amongst our guests since it was built in 2000. Thanks to the combination of its picture-postcard location on the south facing, sundrenched slopes of Vaujany and its smart and stylish interior, it has become the our flagship. Chalet hosts Marcus and Rosa have built up a loyal following amongst our regulars over the years for their impeccable service, their knowledge of the area and above all Marcus's superlative cuisine. The unique mirror-image design of the chalet allows it to be used as a whole, taking advantage of all ten fully en-suite bedrooms. Alternatively, the chalet can be divided for smaller groups into two separate halves, each with their own lounge and dining areas sharing only the entrance hall plus the TV and games room. It can also be booked on a room by room basis.

Was this skiing or was it a gourmet week?

Reviewed By dmacmullen

Truth is we had the best of both ! I took my daughter to get her reacquainted with skiing after a break of nearly 20 years. I had been to Vaujany in 2013 when the Ski Peak owners had a hotel which, though modest, had wonderful cuisine. As Alpe d’Huez has lots of great runs (and gentle wide pistes for us ‘motorway skiers’) I got in touch with Jamie at Ski Peak and booked a couple of rooms at Chalet Saskia for a week. We flew to Grenoble and Ski Peak gave me contacts to book a bus from the airport. Just over an hour and the lovely Roxie picked us up to do the last five miles or so. The chalet has 10 bedrooms and can accommodate 25 or so. Great rooms with super views, all en suite, comfortable and spacious. It’s divided into two wings so we had one to ourselves while a party of 13 occupied the other. They and we had our own living/dining rooms with log burner and direct service from the kitchen. What was it like? The best description is to imagine some friends offered to let you use their house; ‘just come and go as you please’ and ‘our people will look after you......’. They did! Their new chef Matthew will get a Michelin star one day. The evening meals were a two (plus!) hour delight of the most enterprising cuisine, carefully chosen wines, a little explanation by Matt of what we were eating and how it was prepared. Served by Grace, Charlie, Kirsty and with appearances by Mikey, it was like being with friends for the evening. Being able to stream your own music was handy too. Incidentally breakfasts weren’t too shabby either with Matt happy to cook very interesting and different plates. His ‘full English’ was superb (Matt is part Greek, part Lancashire so he has the right genes!). And afternoon tea and cakes by the way.......! Roxie took us to see the ski hire guys. Very sensible prices and (though a busy Saturday) there was a special queue for Ski Peak customers..........! The main gondola is only a couple of hundred yards but no humping up steps required . Vaujany is fully equipped with lifts and escalators. All in all a great week. Three days of full sun. One day of blizzard when we just ‘slobbed out’ in the chalet. Definitely going back! Thanks again to Roxie for looking after admin and taking us back to the bus. Fabulous holiday and so easy to sort out odd details with the office in the UK. Utterly personal service.
