10 Top-Rated Lodges in California

April 18, 2023 Stefan Strunk

California is a fertile, peaceful place where you’ll find a near-equal balance of vineyards and deserts, beaches and mountains, hippies and traditionalists. Catch an epic wave in Big Sur or swirl a glass in Napa Valley. Be dazzled by the Joshua Tree night sky or just star-gaze in Hollywood. Swish down the slopes of a Tahoe ski resort, or cruise across the Golden Gate Bridge with the top down and the music blasting. Above all, don’t forget to soak up some Golden State sunshine.

Big Sur Lodge

Located inside the lodge is The Homestead Restaurant, an outdoor patio, gift store, and deli. Wedding and corporate group events/dining facilities are available.

Magical location and great staff. Expensive to eat and drink within the hotel.

Beautiful setting and location. Lodges are nice and beds are comfortable. The pool is looking a little tired and would benefit from upgrades. Alexis and front of house are super helpful. The restaurant is on the pricey side compared with other eateries nearby.

My wife and I stayed in Room 102. The beds were comfortable, the temperature in the room was easily adjustable if needed (the night got down to 35 degrees F). The Lodge has been refurbished and is in excellent condition. TV worked great with Dish. Tiffany always made sure we were taken care of. Thanks for the great stay!

The location was perfect - very short drive to the village center, and close to Boulder Bay in the other direction. Room 7 was great for us as there was plenty of floor space for our blind golden retriever to find his way around. Everything was very clean and updated, and had all of the amenities we needed. Comfortable bedroom and bathroom, and loved the double recliner in front of the fireplace and flat screen TV in the living room. We would certainly stay there again.

Spider and and ant infested room

Reviewed By 4las

My family and I stayed at this hotel for one night. There were ants crawling on the tables and the air conditioning unit and there were cobwebs and spiders in every corner of the ceiling. The bathroom also smelled like mildew. The room had clearly not been cleaned thoroughly. The girls at the front desk were apathetic, unaccommodating and rude. I will never stay here again and would not recommend it to anyone.

Avoid Cabin D

Reviewed By Escape23593617771

We stayed in Cabin D. Smelled of raw sewage (I think there is a sewage leak under the house bathroom) and like someone cooked pungent food for decades. Refrigerator was dirty inside. Table cloth was stained. However, all bedding was clean and comfortable. They did not shovel the snow on the steps and left no shovel for us to do it ourselves. Would never stay here again.
