10 Top-Rated Hotels in Virginia

June 22, 2022 Ying Subia

Virginia can make American history come alive. Visit Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, tour Civil War battlefields, explore the living history museum at Williamsburg… the possibilities are endless (if the kids object, break up the historical sightseeing with a visit to Busch Gardens). Arlington, site of Arlington National Cemetery, is just across the Potomac River from all the major sites in D.C. In addition to beaches and historical attractions, Virginia has plenty to offer outdoor enthusiasts. Active families will love the Blue Ridge Highlands, where hiking, canoeing and tubing are just a few of the activities offered. Couples might enjoy a romantic mountain cabin in Virginia after a day of hiking in Shenandoah National Park.

Great, Clean Hotel

Reviewed By Znkteac7

My husband and I were celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary with a few days at Virginia Beach. We were a little leary about staying in a hotel we hadn't heard of before but we were pleasantly surprised. The staff was very friendly. We had a King Suite. The view from the balcony was beautiful. The breakfast each morning was very good, much better than a continental breakfast and the folks working the breakfast room were very friendly. If we ever return to Virginia Beach, we would definitely stay at the Coastal Hotel and Suites. Highly recommend.

Frustrating

Reviewed By Pat M

Good beds, good breakfast. Horrible wifi connection, kept dropping off and not allowing back on without at least ½ hour worth of efforts. Every time. Even the manager at the front desk had to spend ½ hour to get me signed in. Then it happened again, over and over. And again. And again. Extremely frustrating as we had some things to research. No housekeeping as is the norm these days but picking up the trash would have been nice, especially for a 3 day stay. A woman at the front desk was quite rude after we asked for keys since ours wouldn’t open our room on our third day (the 3rd set of keys.) She literally threw the key cover to me. Aaaaggghhh! I will never return there.

We’ve been coming here for multiple years because the price is good, breakfast is amazing, and the hotel itself is clean and modern. Plus, hotels by Hilton are usually really good! The staff here is wonderful, especially housekeeping. They are willing to do anything to make the vacation better! The front desk is amazing, especially Ivenla and Juanita (The A Team), they were able to provide us (diamond members) with late checkout…thanks! Highly recommend!

Would not hesitate to recommend to family & friends. I believe the recent bad reviews posted are for another location just down the street.

The hotel was clean but the room was dated. We had a King Studio with a sofa bed as our adult daughter was traveling with us. The room was very small and when we pulled out the sofa bed, you had about one inch to get out the door. Should not be billed as “sleeps four”. I would not stay here again.

Five star hospitality in an updated historic hotel

Reviewed By ywlke

Location was perfect. Hotel is connected to downtown Roanoke by an enclosed aerial walkway. However, it sits on its own plot of beautifully landscaped land which makes it much quieter than downtown and we were glad we choose to stay here instead of in the middle of downtown. Self-parking isn't free, but it is plentiful and gated (there were four reserved spots for Hilton Diamond members close to the entrance). The hospitality started in the parking lot; a little electric golf cart followed us in to the lot and offered to drive us with our luggage up to the front entrance which would otherwise have been a bit of a trek to walk uphill with luggage. The lobby is grand and has two restaurants and a bar attached to it. At check-in, as a Hilton Gold I was upgraded from a 2 queen standard to an executive level 2 queen room which ended up being a spacious corner room. As others have mentioned, it is a bit odd that the executive level rooms are on the first floor. (The pool was right outside our windows on one side.) The room was beautifully appointed and even had a small table with two chairs in addition to a chair for the desk. The shower / tub temperature and pressure were good, although the tub was a bit slow to drain (it could keep up with the shower but only if the tub hadn't accumulated any water from the tub faucet yet). The TV had a hotel channel playing a documentary on the history of the hotel which I enjoyed watching, too. The executive room came with a $10pp F&B voucher in addition to the $15pp credit for being a Gold member, which I think was because the executive lounge no longer offers food at least in the evening, although sodas and supposedly coffee were still available. (I saw a bunch of people go in the lounge in the morning but I don't think breakfast is available anymore either.) The service in the Regency Room was top notch and five star for dinner. It was appropriately more laidback for breakfast but still excellent. We ordered off the menu for breakfast; most items are priced around $15 (basic drinks included in the price). Portions were generously sized, and while some items overlapped with the buffet, others (mains or sides) were only available from the menu. The buffet appeared to offer a dangerously large selection of excellent hot and cold choices for those who prefer it.

They have a pool that is only for adults..which is fine but this was not mentioned online nor was it mentioned at check in. Could not go in pool with my 16 yr old bc he was not old enough to go on the one side. They told him he had to go with little kids. Had I known this, probably would not have booked! Couldn’t even enjoy my time!
