Unwilling to accommodate

Reviewed By upneshs2022

Unwilling to accommodate a last minute change in circumstance - couldnt make it to the booking due to COVID. The owner Rhys wasnt willing to give a refund or a credit saying that they had a minimum 48 hour cancellation policy. Well Covid kinda doesnt give a notice before striking you so how am I supposed to give Rhys ample notice. He still went ahead and charged me for the stay. Very disappointing!!!

Now called 'Coast' apartments, clean but dated

Reviewed By Beck D

The property is signed as 'Coast Apartments' and vehicle access is behind the property on a parallel street. Our 2bdroom apartment was clean; linen provided; tea and coffee stuff provided. Microwave, stovetop and oven. Washing machine, which was a blessing! We visited in Winter, but there is also a pool at the front of the property. Decor is dated but they were renovating the apartment next door, so maybe all apartments will undergo what's needed, structurally and aesthetically. Right across the road from the beach path and walk-able to Foodworks and some restaurants.

Location Fantastic but Unit Disappointing

Reviewed By AustraliaDaisy

Whenever I choose a place to stay whilst on holidays, I always go to great lengths and do my research, so there are no nasty surprises. We recently visited Hervey Bay and stayed at the Alexander Apartments on the Esplanade, which on face value, and from what I had read and seen on the internet, it seemed to tick all the boxes for us. First and foremost was the location, right across the road from the beach. I had requested the top floor unit overlooking the beach and this was superb, even having its own private rooftop balcony (more about that later). The location and position of the unit was second to none, however that’s where it ended for us. Whilst I wasn’t expecting 5 star, what I do expect is cleanliness and appliances that work. Where do I start. One would have thought especially in this covid world we live in right now that cleanliness would be a number one priority, unfortunately that was not the case and the very reason we would not be choosing this establishment for any future holidays, After arrival, I went in search of powerpoints to use as charging stations. I moved a little hall table away from the wall to check behind it, and it was apparent that that table had not been moved in weeks, as the dirt and filth behind it was actually a little disgusting to be honest. A few hours after arrival, we did a sweep of the floor and there is no way we could have generated so much dirt buildup in such a short time (even with 2 young children). The first evening, I went to one of the kitchen cupboards to get a plate out for my children’s dinner, and could not believe what I saw, someone had put a dirty plate back into the cupboard, which had dried on food on it, which was rather disgusting. I could not even stomach it long enough to take a photo, just had to wash it straightaway, before I became ill. I used my own plastic plates from then on. Now if all that wasn’t enough, it was blatantly obvious that the shower and bathroom floor had not been cleaned prior to our arrival, as the mould and scum on both the inside of the shower cubicle and the outside rim of the shower was disgusting. (photos attached). This wasn’t just days worth, this amount would have needed weeks and weeks to have built up this much!! It was never a pleasant experience using the bathroom and I used to get my kids in and out as soon as possible. So now to things breaking down, not working properly or simply just plain annoying. Firstly, the dishwasher, after only 2 uses from us (and as we use one at home we always rinse dishes if they are particularly dirty before placing them into the dishwasher), the water would not drain away but was pooling at the bottom, and I’m talking A LOT of water. Checked the pipes and hose and discovered that they were completely clogged with food particles. Again, how long had it been since the dishwahser was properly cleaned and maintained? Secondly, after 3 or 4 days, the washing machine packed up, it would not drain. So even though we were able to do our washing we had to hang up the laundry soaking wet which depending on what it was, could take a day or more to dry. The drier was going pretty much all the time during our waking hours in the unit. Then we come to the cooker, whilst we could use the hot plates, the oven (which looked brand spanking new), was not even connected (thank God we brought our Air Frier). Now to the furniture, the lounge suite, was almost on its last legs, on about day 4, a mechanism on one of the double recliners became detached from the chair, which meant the recliner could not be put down, and even if you were able to get them down, you needed very strong legs to push the recliners in. Again, not a pleasant experience using the chairs. The side tables had stains all over them and were covered by little table mats. There was no air con in the main bedroom and even with the door open into the living area, the cool air never made it into the bedroom, very uncomfortable. Now to the Roof Top courtyard. Whilst a nice idea and bit of a novelty for the kids (although the views from up there were amazing, the Room description said that barbecues were provided up there, but we did not see any. Apart from the amazing views, a little bit of tlc up there would have made all the difference, a few more potted plants, some greenery to break up the concrete jungle. Whilst not ideal, I can live with things not working or breaking down, but cleanliness, now that’s a deal breaker for me, no matter where I stay, so unfortunately it won’t be at the Alexander Apartments again any time soon. Oh and if you have a tall vehicle it may not fit in the underground secure carpark. We had to leave ours in the street all week which was not ideal, as all the gear that we were hoping to leave in the car in the secured basement, we now had to cart it all up 2 levels to our unit. As the lifts were so tiny, it took about 6 trips to get everything including the 4 of us up there. If would have been nice to have been advised of the garage clearance prior to our arrival, or better still, at the time of booking.
