The hotel is at the top of the high street and so easily within walking distance ( and we are of limited mobility) to restaurants and shops. The sea front is at the end of the main street and is also walkable. On street parking which could be difficult in high season. The rooms are a little tired but clean and have a balcony which the owners don't mind you taking your breakfast onto. The owner changed us to a ground floor room - without asking- when he noticed we couldn't do stairs easily, however it isn't wheelchair accessible. En-suite shower room was a little small but adequate. There was no hairdryer or teamaking facilities so take your own ( plenty of french two pin plugs in room). Breakfast was good. Choice of bread, brioche, croissants etc with preserves, charcuterie and eggs, cereals, fruit and yoghurt all served buffet style.

If you are seeking rest and quiet, this is ideal. The hotel is approx. 4 km out of Soulac and very close to the beach. However, there is little infrastructure in the area ( 2 restaurants and some camp sites). The hotel staff are extremely helpful and friendly.

Some improvements since last visit

Reviewed By cubsur

As a regular visitor all I shall say here is that since my visit in 2017 the decor of the bar area has been completely refreshed in a new red and white colour scheme with new furnishings. Madame said it cost a lot! My room (11) unchanged though, not that it mattered. Wifi is also a lot more reliable, with the installation of a repeater in the bedrooms area, although once or twice it did mysteriously drop out. There is still little danger of any sleep after about 7am, given the nearness of the market, delivery trucks arriving and the noise making machine disguised as a street sweeper passing by, but otherwise slept well. Hired a bike from Ericycles across the road.

Warm welcome, great hosts, rooms and food

We were recommended this hotel by the garage that was mending our motorhome, when it broke down. We had our small jack russell dog with us, and arrived tired and in need of rest! The owners welcomed us with a smile and were so warm and friendly. I asked if we could book for a meal that evening, but the restaurant was closed evenings. However, Pascal cooked for us, a set menu and it was delicious. They are a lovely welcoming couple and have put so much effort into their hotel, bar and restaurant, and it shows. There are locals who pop in for a drink, chat, lunch, as well as hotel customers. We really enjoyed a few drinks at the bar, and watching the locals come and go. Our room had laminated flooring which was practical, and brilliant as we had a dog. It was comfortable and clean. On the day our motorhome was ready, Pascal gave us a lift to the garage, and stayed with us until we were all set to leave. We both felt really cared for and will definitely return when our travels take us through France again. Also, the weather was awful whilst we were there, and so didn't have the chance to get out and about in the area, but what we saw was a lovely coastal town. In unfortunate circumstances we saw a real French local hotel at work, and it will stay with us for a long time. Neither my partner nor I can speak French and so interacting was difficult, but Sandrine spoke great English and Pascal was ok, but both better than us!

The bathroom was a dirt nightmare. Mould in the shower, so we hardly dared to put a foot in there. The carpet was a landscape of former client "accidents", and the breakfast non-existent as nobody showed up. Though the location is good, the noise of early delivery trucks in the street wakes up the hotel clients at five in the morning. Everything from furniture to walls and staircase is old and used in that hotel. So maybe someone is willing to buy that hotel and transform it into a modern and functional place? It would be a truly solid and profitable investment as it is in one of the busiest tourist streets with bakers, restaurants, and lots of attractive little cafés right in the town center, just a few meters (!) away from the beach.

Small, safe campsite great for first time campers.

This was our first camping holiday with our 3yr old. The campsite was easily accessed by car from Bordeaux so we found the transfer stress free and the drive enjoyable. Warmly welcomed, very clean, modern and comfortable mobile home. Felt like a small and safe campsite which was important to us (car reg was entered for access to site so all entries were monitored). Swimming pool was meticulously clean and very well supervised. Snack bar/restaurant was sufficient but wider menu choice and opening hours (didn’t serve until 7pm which wasn’t suitable for a toddler after a day swimming) would have encouraged us to eat there more often. TakeAway pizza was a good option though. Convenient to the beaches and shops (car recommended) within minutes. We also used the shuttle to the beach which takes ages (30mins) but was fun for the toddler. Staff very helpful particularly since my french was so poor. All round a great, safe place to stay and would recommend.

Camping le Palace

The best camping in France

Reviewed By TheLocalTraveller41

Me and my mother stayed in this amazing camping for 10 days. Everyday I would wake up at 09:00 and know exactly what I would do on that day. There are fantastic activities to do for teens like me in the morning and the afternoon and every evening there was a 'spectacle'. The restaurant there was great too, very nice food at a low cost and a huge menu to pick from. There is also a nice pool with great slides, a tennis court, mini golf and lots more.
