A good hotel located next to a major road but still calm and quiet

Reviewed By reijob

I come back here regularly and really like the place. The service is good, the room and bed great. Safe in the room, a desk to work at, a mini-bar, TV, good shower, toilet articles etc. The breakfast buffet is good, with both warm and cold food, and most things you can ask for. The only negative is that it’s almost impossible to regulate the room temperature. But there is a door/window you can open when it’s too warm.

Ugly location, very friendly and helpful staff

Reviewed By Familyswitzerland4

We stayed at the hostel with our two little children. The hostel is located in an industrial area and it is looks quit ugly from the outside. The lady at the reception was very friendly, we had booked a double room, but when she saw that we were traveling with two small children, she put in the room a baby bed and an extra bed for no additional cost. The room was clean and what you expect for the price. The breakfast was a bit expensive.

An odd name but totally acceptable

Quite why they would call this place the old castle is beyond me - it is in what looks like an apartment complex. But with decent (paid) underground parking and a fairly central location, it is good for a night or so. The rooms are largish for the price and clean, the bathroom a good size, and the breakfast a very decent one. In terms of value for money, it is a good bet - no character as such (and no old castle!) but very comfortable and well priced.

Good location, good wifi

Stayed here on the recommendation of local colleagues; it's out of town and tucked away in a housing estate, so really quiet. And also doesn't have any car parking, expect to have to park by the road. Staff speak enough english that you won't starve, and you can get a wicked G&T from the cafe bar. No evening restaurant, though there are a few places within walking distance, and it's a short drive into Palencia (where expect a shortage of parking) for some good places to eat. Breakfast buffet is typical for the continent, breads, pastries, cheese and ham. Water pressure in the shower isn't going to win any rain forest style awards, but at least I didn't need a phD to master the controls. The rooms have roller shutters, so proper dark. Except my light bulbs didnt go out when you hit the switch, I had to unscrew them to get proper darkness?! One point to note...the walls are paper thin. The shutters? You'll hear your neighbours above, below and to each side open and close them. The floors are laminate, so you'll hear any high heeled shoes...and every toilet flush. And there's a children's playground directly next door, so plenty of shouting and shrieking til it's time for them to go home. A nice little place to stay, will probably stay again if in the area.

Cheap, cheerless but adequate

Reviewed By dominus_matthaeus

Chose this literally just to have a cheap place to sleep before travelling on the next morning. Reception is unstaffed after hours and check-in was a hybrid model - I had to ring a bell and speak to someone on camera, giving him my details to be allowed inside and then collecting a key from the lockbox. The room was shaped like an oddly long rectangle, spacious enough. View is forgettable, decoration inside the room not much better. Heating at least was good, it was nice and warm in the room.

Just about OK but not 4 stars

Reviewed By Paola H

Hotel Rey Sancho is rather tatty and scruffy. It's certainly a long way from 4 stars. The corridors are shabby and the rooms in need of renovation. When we booked, the hotel was advertised as having a pool, but we were told when we got the booking confimation that the pool was closed. It looks like it has been closed for some time - being somewhat green with algae and full of dirt and leaves. Our room was spacious but we were plagued with mosquitoes. It seems other people have been too as there were a lot of dead mosquito traces on the walls. The walls were paper thin - we could hear everything our neighbour in the next room was doing and saying, including his TV set and his visits to the bathroom. Staff were very pleasant and the price was OK, but we have stayed in better places and paid less.

Simple, central and great value!

Reviewed By Steve S

Spacious 2nd floor double bed room with A/C and double windows which kept out the plaza noise. They moved us after 1st night because our room was over the sidewalk recycling bins and they were emptied at 3am and 4am, but after that, no problems. Friendly attendant who showed us bike parking in garage, efficient cleaning, simple and tasty cafe downstairs where we ate affordable breakfast tortillas with coffee and juice or toast. Perfect for us and we'd stay here again.
